Louisiana State Police arrested the head of a Palos Verdes-based disaster recovery company Thursday on suspicion of stealing more than $320,000 from victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Steve Slepcevic, the 41-year old founder and chief executive officer of Paramount Disaster Recovery Inc., evaded authorities for days before arriving at St. Tammany Parish courthouse in a white 7 Series BMW to turn himself in,
quote:
His former business partner and Paramount attorney Matthew Todd was arrested in California early Monday morning and is in a Los Angeles County jail awaiting extradition to Louisiana. Another former Paramount employee, Michael Mekeel, 38, has agreed to turn himself in to authorities in the coming days, Adams said.
The three are accused of conspiring to use forged checks to steal insurance proceeds from hurricane victims, according to warrants and an affidavit filed in early September. Slepcevic is also accused of four counts of money laundering, the court records say.
The arrests come two months after a Times investigation found that Paramount had left a trail of fraud complaints, lawsuits and government investigations from Mississippi to California over the last decade. Slepcevic and his company have eluded authorities thanks to lackluster enforcement and the loose web of state regulations that govern roving insurance adjusters and contractors known as storm chasers, the investigation found.
quote:
“They took my insurance check and kept the money,” said Danny Denoux, a former New Orleans police officer who filed one of the complaints against Paramount. “While my wife was cooking on a hot plate on the second floor for a year because we had no kitchen, I’m sure [Paramount employees] were basting on the beach with my . . . money.”
Adams, who was assigned the case last September, said he was surprised that other law enforcement agencies had not pursued the case sooner. Authorities he contacted in two other states said they were not doing anything, and the local FBI office told him “it’s a California issue,” Adams said.
“It’s not a complex scheme,” Adams said. But “when they cross state lines, they make it difficult for these agencies to chase them.”
I had just about finished benchamin 2 when this started, so I'm 2 months in on bench specific plans. Shoulders have been holding up so far but I've intentionally taken it light.
I think I may go with pool season 2 or silver back after this is over.

Looks like someone associated with the Pink Agave is opening there under the name "Ricky's".

Hot Springs, AR- Striper charter guide recommendation
Posted by burgeman on 2/16/26 at 12:40 pm
Might be too late but planning a trip up to Hot springs in April and will be near Lake Ouachita.
Does anyone have a recommendation or any experience with guide services up there for striper's or bass/crappie/bluegill?

There was some drama after Bruce died with one of the long time managers/servers and Bruce's kid who took it over. It played it over Facebook for a few weeks.
Anyway, it's been mismanaged since Bruce died and never really recovered. It was a staple for me and the wife. We had our spot at a two top against the wall.
I'm sure Saul will buy it and turn it into a mediocre "high end" restaurant.

I've got an older, established 8-10 acre pond that was drained after Katrina due to salvinia infestation. It has mostly been un managed in reference to fish. I would like to see if our fish population is healthy. Would that LSU link be who I should contact?

I forgot to add, we had a very bad salvinia issue around 2005. We broke the levee, drained and killed it all with pesticide. Then re did the drainage for the levee, let it come back up and stocked it. So it's came back over the last 20 years.

Your lake is overpopulated with bass. Cull every bass under 12 inches.
Consider them filet'd.
I've kinda figured they were getting out of control just by lack of people fishing it over the last 20 years. We do no pond management other than killing the water hyacinth when it pops up.

You'd have to share the address or gps coordinates in order for me or awgusta to see it on Google maps.
After posting I got to thinking, there would be no way for me to explain the depths and different places trees fell into it at. But here's a screenshot from Google maps. It's just outside of Ponchatoula.
But deepest part is about 10-12 feet which is about the middle of of the long side of the pond. It's a mud bottom with a levee on the southwest corner that drains it into the swamp. There's no creek or stream feeding it. We mostly bass fish out of it. It's been stocked in the past but the pond has been around since the 50's when it was dug by the previous landowner. Never fished hard, it's just my family around it. Me and my kids are the only ones who fish it the last 10 years.
This is about the high end of size of the bass we usually catch.

Can you take a look at my home pond/lake and tell me where I should be looking for them at? I've got an ultra light set up and have only caught 2 or 3 over the years. But I've never been able to get on a good bite over the 30 years I've fished it.
I'm on day 2, this one is a beast with all the compound lifts.
Decent deal on Shimano Zodias $140 shipped

Zodias
Looks like most of the options are out of stock but I picked up 6'9" MH fast action spinning for $140 shipped.
Used code REEL10 to bring it down to $140.
I believe they also have casting model for same price.

How people keep getting suckered into buying these things boggles my mind. I've heard nothing but bad things.
Did it kill satsuma season? I didn't see any in stores this year.
