I understand that limiting alcohol is obviously the best answer but I have a job that involves a lot of entertaining of clients and that usually involves alcohol.

I workout 3-4 days and week and while I am in pretty good shape I feel like in order to take the next step concentrating on my diet and reducing / eliminating alcohol needs to happen.

So I guess my question for the experts is for the occasions that you do drink, what types of drinks do you have?

If you don't want to just have water at these events you can tell the bartender to not actually put alcohol in your drinks.

I drink beer. A lot.

I've pretty much accepted that I'm not going to ever have a 6 pack again because of it

But I eat pretty clean and I work out a lot, so I feel like that helps keep the classic "beer gut" away.

Soda water and lime. You look like you're drinking so no one questions you.

You can entertain clients without drinking alcohol.

If you want to drink, tequila and vodka have the least calories.

Just tell the waitress or bartender to not put the alcohol in your drinks. Pretty common for some sales guys to do.

I've been sober for over a year now and am in the best shape I've ever been, six pack and all.

I have a job where I entertain clients also and it's not that bad without alcohol, you just need to be comfortable with yourself.

If you think you can eliminate alcohol, do it. It provides no benefits anyway.

Whiskey was my poison.

I cut out drinking (or at least significantly) as part of my New Year's thing-a-ma-jig. I normally don’t do a resolution, but figured this year I’d give it a shot.

Anyway, in just a couple weeks I’ve noticed a huge change. I’ve lingered around 190 for the past two years (I’m 5’8 barefoot) and I’ve already cut down to 178 without changing anything else. I was drinking maybe 3x a week before.

My 3 mile run time has gone from about 23 minutes back to about 19-20 minutes. I just feel better.

I've known some large Americans that when dieting said it didn't matter if they had one drink or a hundred, they didn't lose weight that week.

Alcohol usually also leads to eating junk while you’re drinking. At least it does for me. I try not to especially when I’m trying to stay lean.

it depends how much you drink and how you react to it. some people can drink and get up the next morning at 6:00 and hit their normal workout routine (mostly younger kids i see in the gym). i personally can not. im training for a half iron in the AM and olympic lifting 4 days a week in the evening. im giving it up 100% until i go on vacation at the end of June. after vacation ill stop again until after the half ironman (Sept 23).
most who choose to drink will have a beer or two / glass or 2 of wine. straight bourbon or vodka soda / vodka water for the hard stuff.
if you want to get serious... cut the booze.

This is my issue. I rarely drink while staying active. Not because I'm worried about alcohol calories or anything. Or even it's effect on recovery. More because I drink to excess, eat like crap that night, then am useless the next day. Even when I don't have the typical hangover, I still crave junk food the day after drinking. And I have no desire to get out there and do anything. So it's a day and a half wasted.

Depends on your training and fitness goals. If the goal is to workout 3-5 times a week, stay strong and fit and not worry about having 6 pack abs, a few drinks a week won't hurt.

If you want to hit serious goals or in your case are knocking out 2-a-day workouts while training for an IM, yeah alcohol isn't a good idea.

Straight spirits are fine. Whiskey is actually supposed to be kind of bad for hair loss, so to be careful, maybe stick to gin and tequila!

My buddy drinks brown liquor like a fish. At least 1 a week night more on Fri/Sat and is super fit.

I did P90x3 and lost 23 pounds but no more because I couldnt quit drinking beer during football season. I also homebrew as a hobby. So...yeah. But I am planning on not drinking at all during the week and only one or two beers on Friday/Saturday night.

Im also switching from less P90x3 videos and doing a running routine since I very much enjoy running and actually hate working out to videos. I am doing interval HIIT runs of 5K every other day and doing strength training (push ups, pull ups, chin ups, other moves from P90x routines) on the between days and resting on Saturdays. I think that best suits my time/enjoyment factors and should keep me healthy!

Cheers to you all and live life. Remember all in moderation and all will be fine!

I drink rum, straight, probably more than I should(3-4times/week), but also cycle(indoor) and row 5 times a week. I don’t see any ill effects. I can’t remember the last time I passed out, vomit, got can’t remember what I did drunk. I know myself, and when that slight euphoria kicks in, I’m done.
