I do wish Pelican Point had one that is more involved. As much as I hate a marshal, one is needed on the courses at Pelican badly.

Yea same, I ran from them as a kid, but they are a welcome site on the courses I play at times. Definitely keeps pressure on the slow players.

The carts at one(maybe both) of the courses I play have bluetooth speakers built in. The best part is, max volume keeps anyone but people very close to the cart from hearing it.

I actually think a competent starter is way more important than marshalls, at least at a public course. I played Tradition on Friday last week. We get to the starter about 5 mins before our tee time. He tells us to go ahead. We notice that there is a single on the tee ahead of us. I ask if we are with him. The starter says, "I don't care, you can play with him or not. Doesn't matter to me". Turned out it was one of the rare Friday afternoons at a public course in Houston where it was not crowded and we played in 3 hours. However, this starter could have caused real issues with the pace of play by letting small groups that are supposed to be together go off separately.
If the starter gets people off on their tee time in threesomes and foursomes, that will be a huge help in keeping up pace.

9.1 handicapper here. Generally play 5800-6100 yards.
I use a speaker, but ALWAYS have it at a level that ONLY my cart can hear it.
NO rap. NO country. Classic rock and prog rock.

You sir are not who I speak of lol, I just don't want to hear someone's music from their cart while we are on the tee box, green etc.

I had to deal with this last week for the first time as a single placed with a threesome of a dad in his 50s and his son and friend in their early 30s. They kept the speaker low volume, but what was more an issue is their slow play. They were often looking for another song instead getting ready to hit their next shot.
I was pushing the play by not wasting time waiting around for them and played my ball when ready.

We play with an older dude who has his own tricked out cart, he always has old Honky Tonk music playing nonstop.

I live in a golf community, and have my own cart.
Unless I'm just hammered (VERY rare)... my speaker stays quiet enough that I can hold a conversation with whoever is in the cart with me.

Yeah, if LSU baseball or Football is going on while I'm on the golf course I always have the game on..
