This was NEVER a thing before the last 5 years or so. If you can't just enjoy a round without blasting your shitty music, go away.
What?? It’s been a thing for like 20 years when Bluetooth speakers became pretty mainstream in the early 2000’s they found their way into carts.

It was pretty rare pre-covid IMO, I can't remember ever getting paired with anyone blaring. Now it's a better than 75% chance

There's definitely more now but I've been playing for well over 30 years now and 20 of them was with a speaker. It's always low enough where when you get on the green to putt you can't hear the music.
The one exception is the two annual alumni tournaments I play a year. They're 4-man scramble fundraisers and more of a fun reunion with old classmates versus serious golf. The party atmosphere is a bit different and I'm ok with that.
Also, I couldn't care less if you like the music I like. That's a you problem.

I mean I've been playing with the same group since '06 and for most of that time someone had a speaker of some sort.. Only time i've ever been paired with strangers is on vacation ..
and hell Bushnell released the first Wingman in April 2020 so the demand for a golf specific speaker was definitely there and that can't be attributed to covid..

I just don't let little shite like that bother me man. I'm there to relax and have a good time with friends so I'll never let what someone else is doing interfere with me enjoying myself.
And I don't need dead silence across the course so I can swing the club. But that's just me.

Nah this just isn't true man.
I've been playing since 1998 and played a massive amount of golf in that time with a lot of different people and I can't remember one time someone playing music on a speaker prior to 2020 or so.
Bluetooth speaker in the 2000's were absolute crap. Much less take them on the course with you good. THe JBL flip didn't come out until 2013 or so and that was the first take with you anywhere type bluetooth speaker.
There wasn't a dedicated "golf brand" bluetooth speaker until 2019 when Bushnell came out with the wingman. Once there became one targeted just for golfing the on course music trend took off.
Hell even Gemini says that it wasn't until 2021 that they became widespread acceptance on the course.

Nah I typically just start talking/cough in their backswing on the first tee and let them know it must not bother them since the music is playing anyway, point is usually made early.
It’s mainly why I try to stay away from public and stick to my club where volume is strictly enforced.

At our neighborhood course, we had a homeowner who was building a stone wall where he literally cut every stone by hand. The noise was annoying, but the cloud of smoke formed by the debris was another.
He finally finished after about an entire year.
That saw would whine and whine when people were hitting a short side flop shot or putting .
The neighborhood Facebook page roasted him. It was all day, everyday for most of a year.

No qualms here with with the external and intermittent golf music as long it's not blasted to where a half mile radius can hear it. Just about everything I've heard from others is good vibe songs and a welcome distraction (I'm a 15 handicap with that said).
Got paired with a 2-some a few months ago at my home course and one owned a hood night club that also owned a house with a swimming pool overlooking one of the holes on the course with his friend who was a hick-ish dude from Oklahoma. They played Boosie and related trap music whole time and didn't mind (not my chosen genre but didn't hate it).

Yea that statement was using an overly broad brush, BUT I’d bet he’s right more often than wrong about the handicap part.
Bottom line is I don’t want to hear anyone’s music while on golf course, keep it only audible to you while in your cart and won’t be a problem

I’ll sometimes have music on my phone either in my pocket or in the cart, but it’s never loud enough for others to hear. I keep the volume down low enough to where it can only be heard within a few feet of me because I grew up being taught that you’re quiet on the golf course.
God intended the golf course to be a place of solitude.

I keep the volume low. Sometimes I won’t even have it on.
I play often with a guy who despises music on the course. He told me that the volume that I keep it at is fine since he doesn’t hear it unless he is standing next to my cart.
Only time mine is loud is for the horse race during member/member or member/guest.
