Open World Games can be a good thing. I feel like everyone is trying too hard to be too open world. Zelda was already open world with a streamlined story. I don't need you to say "think GTA or RDR but with Zelda"

What they were really going for was the original Zelda experience. The first one was an open world game that let you explore at will. Sure we all got used to the linear stuff that the later games introduced, but the development team made it a point to return to the original Zelda format.

I think it’s one of the greatest games ever and the non linear structure was what I thought zelda games were lacking TBH

That's what I loved about it. It didn't hold your hand, once you left the Plateau it was up to you where you wanted to go. My favorite moments were accidentally discovering something cool, or seeing something for the first time that I didn't even know was on the game.

Yeah, the physics system is also insane. Anything you think MIGHT work usually does. It’s a game that very much encourages and rewards creativity.

I played it but didn't care that much for it. Whoever came up with the weapon breaking idea is a giant a-hole. To me the last good zelda game was twilight princess. Unpopular opinion but I hated the graphics of wind waker. Just terrible.

The only thing that really turned me off about it was the weapons.. I didn't mind the cooking and stuff like that.. but the weapons breaking really aggravated me for some reason.

I beat two of the beasts and haven't turned it on since.

I think it has more to do with wanting to play more multiplayer games when I do get on to play something than me not liking the game, though.

If I were on the design team for the sequel, literally the only things I would change about how the game plays is that I would make all the weapons other than sticks and bones at least a little more durable, and the good weapons way more durable.

I need to emulate this one day

I just got around to doing this the past 2 weeks and its great. Im using cemu of course and a front end program that makes everything beautiful. One great advantage of using cemu is being able to turn the rain off and change colors of things. There are also cheats if you want them.

BOTW is the most overrated game in the series and one of the most of the past decade.

If you don’t believe me, fire up Ocarina and get back to me when you realize you’ve played for 12hr straight

Eh, I like it in parts. Once I got used to it and figured out how not to die constantly it got more fun. I have looked up answer when I got stuck since I didn't want to spend hours trying to figure it out since there's so much content.

I personally like twilight princess better than OoT.

Is it already trendy to hate on this one? Looks like it.

The game was a patient game. That was part of its brilliance.

This was one of few games I’ve actually completed in years. Atleast one that takes longer than 15 hours.

If you don’t like breath of the wild you just don’t get it. And that’s okay. Honestly the world Zelda shouldn’t even be in the title and people who don’t like it or enjoy it because they didn’t get a Zelda game is a valid opinion to me. And it’s got major flaws like how damage is calculated and armor breaks the whole game. But the sheer balls it had and how it truly was okay here’s a 35 second animated link waking up here’s some clothes go nuts. They don’t love it for the Zelda, the hero of courage or Gannon or whatever honestly unless you seek out the memories you could VERY easily have no fricking clue what is happening why it’s happening or why you care. BoTW2 I expect with expand tremendously on this aspect

For a game where 99% of the content is optional, somehow I ended up playing this game for 60 hours.

I'm not sure though if Nintendo can get as much mileage out of the BotW formula as they did copying Ocarina of Time.

I think doing away with weapons breaking and the stamina meter plus adding actual side quests to fill out the world so that the gameplay isn't just, climb tower, find shrine, do puzzle, gain heartpice, repeat would go a long way.

AC Odyssey (don't laugh) in a lot of ways felt like what I'd like BotW to be.

I would absolutely love to hear the explanation behind the downvoter of my post. Idc about the red arrow im legit curious. BotW is one of the best games of all time. Full stop. Aside from the combat armor breaking system and ability to non stop eat so you have to force a challenge it’s amazing. Literally a pioneer for which decades will emulate. Doesn’t change the fact it’s not really a Zelda game lol. Not 1 of the 12 memories that give what could loosely be called plot are mandatory or even easy to find really. Most will get them all out of order. It’s just not a Zelda game as they’ve typically been. Which is fine as frick because it doesn’t need to be.

How to almost flawlessly make an open world that lives in and breaths with the player down to most real life physics. One you don’t give a shite there’s no story at all because that’s not the game the game is exploring. Nintendo has given the template for every “world” part of every open world game going forward. No more Ubisoft bullshite. Now the narrative (typically the most important thing in a game to me but Breath was just that good) has GOT to find a way to be tightened up into that world and I think you’ll see them make huge strides to try to do this in the seque

My idea on how to do this is leave the world as it was with your usually new widgets and what not, but remove the story part being an optional scavenger hunt that is really hard. Integrate some sections that take over a linear experience to tell your story

So then they would have an open world game with a good story?

Again, what exactly have they pioneered?

How do you not understand this? The actual WORLD part of an open world game. That’s what. It’s so much better than anything that’s ever been produced I can’t believe it needs to be explained. Also, open world games are notorious for failing to tell good narratives. Even ones that manage like Witcher 3 and Red Dead 2 suffer seriously bad pacing problems and nonsensical things tied to their world rules and limits of the hardware

By no means don’t take me as some to my last breath defense of this game. It has flaws. Seriously game breaking flaws if you know how to do it or just upgrade your armor high enough. But I will defend the world they built to the death because it’s 100x better than anything before it or since and it just makes you wonder wtf is everyone else doing
