Which is better: Battlefield series or Call of Duty series?

Different games.

Historically I’m a COD player, but switched to BF this past year.

I enjoyed battlefield more, but both are kinda just auto aim slop.

Early COD was the goat. But the Fortniteification of it has caused it to go off the rails. Battlefield has overtaken it.

It depends on what you want. CoD has a better "feel" than Battfield.

CoD is better for straight up TDM style play. Battlefield is better if you want something larger scale and more strategic.

Both are great and offer two different gameplay experiences. As others have said, COD is more run and shoot and high-paced, while Battlefield is full-scale, large map warfare.

COD was undeniably better and more popular at its peak. Both Battlefield and COD peaked insanely high in the late 2000s/early 2010s, but earlier COD games like Modern Warfare, WaW, MW2, Black Ops, MW3, and BO2 are considered some of the greatest first person shooters of all time. Modern Warfare's online multiplayer was one of the most revolutionary gaming experiences we've ever seen - it fundamentally redefined the first person shooter genre and created a blueprint that first person shooter games still use today.

Battlefield has always had deeper gameplay but was less approachable due to its more complex nature. So, it wasn't as popular as COD was back then. That's not to say that Battlefield games weren't good - I started Battlefield at BF3 and played BF4 and Battlefield 1 (World War 1 era) a good bit. Finding a tank and blowing shite up with it is a really cool experience BF offers that COD can't.

It wasn't until last year that Battlefield became more popular than COD in terms of sales - Battlefield 6 outsold COD Black Ops 7 over the year 2025, marking a massive shift in gamer interest from COD to Battlefield.

If you're looking for what people are currently playing, Battlefield 6 is the better choice over COD BO7. Any of the more modern COD titles are really not worth playing. Battlefield 6 usually gets a few million weekly active players worldwide per week I think, I read somewhere around 1.5 million on console.

Here's the thing though - the original Black Ops 2 game from like 2012 or 2013 was just ported over to modern consoles and is available on both the PS and Xbox stores. As of three weeks ago, the modern port of Black Ops 2 reached 5.25 MILLION weekly players on Playstation alone.

So, here's the answer to your question - historically, COD is a better game series than Battlefield and it's not particularly close. COD's earlier entries outshine anything Battlefield has ever produced, and modern ports of older COD games are outperforming Battlefield's current product. Which ever game you like will come down to preference obviously, but there's no doubt that COD is the better game series overall.
