I live up in NJ, and I’ve been on a shishito kick recently. Flash fry em with some flaky sea salt after, or blister them in a pan with some Asian ingredients, etc.

My mom lives in BR and has been on the hunt for Shishitos since I’ve been telling her about them. She says she’s been to Whole Foods and a few other grocery stores (including an Asian market) and can’t find them anywhere.

I’m so confused. We literally have them everywhere here..my local grocer, farmers markets, heck even Costco.

Is this a regional thing? Are they called something else in LA?

Thanks for the help!

Alexanders has had them. Ask and some of the local chains will order them for you. Takes a day or two to come in usually.

I think Trader Joes carries them regularly too.

I've gotten them several times around town over the past few years; Albertsons, Alexanders, Trader Joes, Sprouts and maybe others

They seem to be super hit or miss around my parts. I have 5 plants so I only buy them if I find them early in the year.

Picked a bunch tonight and we cooked some up. I cut a few slits in the pepper so the sauce can get in.

Basically hit with salt, pepper, japanese 7 spice, and a little sesame oil. Start blistering in pan and throw in some chopped garlic and ginger. Once peppers are blistered, hit em with soy sauce or a spicy ponzu sauce I have and let it cook into the peppers briefly.

I could eat Shishitos like that every meal

They are fricking delicious! Got tired of never being able to find them around here so I grew them myself. Turned out great.

At the beginning of corona, Walmart had them. I haven’t been in a Walmart in months so I don’t know if they are still carrying them. We bought 3 plants, put them in containers and they have produced shishito pepper all summer

Albertsons sells them

Agree with others in growing them. Very easy. Did them this year.

Of course the blandest pepper of all becomes the food du jour.

Try Southside. I believe I've seen them there.

3-5 plants will provide pretty much a constant supply from June to September

I can go outside and pick an appetizer’s worth just about any night. It’s great

Albertson's on Bluebonnet/Burbank has them. Bought some last week.

I bought a bag at Kroger a couple weeks ago.

Recently saw a Serious Eats recipe that looked like a good change of pace from blistering: Creamed Shishito Peppers

I've got them there before. Don't know if it's a regular item or not. I've got to tell you, I was underwhelmed

Shishito flavor comes from how you cook them.

I planted a Shishito plant in my garden this summer, and it's been pumping them out. I'm going to get a couple more next year
