Same here. Growing up, we would go there every Friday night. Spent many hours in the lounge waiting for a table while the adults drank.

Wait a minute. Hymel's is closing? Have they already closed?

That's tragic if so. Best oysters anywhere.

Saw a family member of the owners share this news. Sad. So many great times there and a wonderful hole in the wall

Fishbowls of pink lemonade are some top childhood memories. Haven’t been in a while, but still sad.

The 2019 closing thread will be great. So many options will be available for the taking. BR is very oversaturated in several markets and there are some obvious closures on the horizon.

Went last month.
The last few times I went I thought the food quality had gone down. Not sure if they lost some chefs but it had dropped off.
Will miss it though

I grabbed a pizza from Italian Pie on George O'Neal last night. It was actually pretty good but I have no clue how that place is still open.

Poke is fine..
But it's just lazy sushi to me.

Yeah, I thought Southfin was going to be a regular spot because we almost always get a seafood salad when we order sushi. But it turns out .. I don’t want just seafood salad as my meal.

And I don’t really care for the rice they use either. I prefer sushi rice. So I’ve pretty much continued ordering seafood salad and a roll from Wahada when I’m craving raw fish.

We passed by there on Saturday afternoon and I made the same comment. I met a friend there once and, even though we were the only ones dining in, they seemed to be doing alot of take-out.

Is it closing or closed? Do I still have time to go eat there one more time?

Nope. They're done Bob. Closed the doors at 3 PM yeasterday for good. Its over. Sad indeed. I grew up eating thre and still patronized the place often for lunch and dinner. I have the Hymels Restaurant Facebook page. They put the notice out yesterday about 4.

Place was a throwback institution, but hopefully a lesson on what cutting corners and taking shortcuts with such a place will ultimately lead to. I'm guessing the Sunshine Bridge fiasco was their final nail in the coffin.

Sad to see.

I stopped in about a year ago and a co-worker and I sat in the bar area to eat. The fried shrimp were good, but the "owner" or whoever it was at the bar was annoying. He was even bragging to us that he switched to the Asian catfish.
A few people told me that in the last 6 months or so it started to go downhill some.

That place actually had some really good food. I never saw anybody there, though. They probably couldn't have done a shittier job advertising it, because I only found it by scrolling through Waitr and I'm in that Burbank/Nicholson area all the time.

Someone will love grabbing their spot. There is so much business in the area.

When that place was on it was great, but it was the most inconsistent and worst staff imaginable. They had a really good martini list.

Are you sure? They're closed on Mondays. I passed by there a few months ago on a Monday and thought they had shut down.
I wouldn't be surprised if they did close, cuz that place seems dead.

Here's the Advocate's write up with a facebook post from the family:

LINK

I think the food quality has went down over the last couple of years, not worth making drive, but it sounds like Sunshine Bridge closing down was the nail in the coffin.
