Bourbon and whisk(e)y are meant to be imbibed with just a couple of drops of water.

Generally my way. But an egg white bourbon sour is a wonderful cocktail as is a Manhattan. Put hair on your chest.

Bulleit Rye
Fabri Amarena cherries
Orange slice
2 dashes of bitters
Instead of simple syrup I use a couple teaspoons of syrup from the cherry jar.

Stir

Drink.

Never made them but I like Brandy Old Fashioned Sweet, only in Wisconsin.

Watch the video I linked to (all of his videos are pretty damn funny) and you can make your own. FWIW if you're into other Wisconsin things there's a book and PBS show out there titled Old Fashioned that's pretty good covering the culture.

shaking tends to dilute drinks and change the texture into a more bubbly/foamy drink.

This reminds me of people that let their wine breathe to release tannins lol. If you can tell the difference then enjoy.

2x20oz Styro’s nested up
Fill with ice
Couple dashes of angostura (maybe peychaud too if I have it)
Couple whole maraschino cherries (do not muddle)
Twist the orange peel a couple times to get the oils going
Couple squirts of homemade simple syrup
Run your Makers Mark a 1/4 from the top
Gently pour back and forth between the 2 cups a couple of times until the last drops run smooth and you can tell the simple syrup is mixed in.

2 oz bourbon
4 dash of Angostura bitters
1/4 oz of simple
Garnished with an orange swath

Pour ingredients into a container. Stir 25 times. Pour over ice cubes in an Old Fashioned glass. Express the oils of an orange peel swath into the glass by twisting it with both hands and then wipe around the rim of the glass. Add one maraschino cherry.

Perfection.

Muddled raw cane sugar. Simple syrup does not take you places drinking an old fashioned.

1 dash old fashioned bitters
1 Stonewall Kitcjen Bada Bing Bourbon Cherry
1 orange peel

Pour sirop & rye into glass, stir

this is the proper way to make a traditional Old Fashioned.
LINK

and if you are a fan of these, seriously, try using Old Charter. I have found it is the best tasting bourbon to use in an Old Fashioned. My grandfather was a bartender in the 50s and he has old charter underlined. IDK what it is but it blows all the expensive shite out of the water.

My dad always said his favorite drink had only 3 ingredients: Glass, two ice cubes, Bourbon. Ice Optional. And later added, Glass optional.
