For me it’s simply:

Reposado tequila
Fresh squeezed lime
Grand Marnier
No salt

2 Oz tequila (Lalo is my preference)
1 Oz lime juice
1/2 oz Cointreau
1/2 oz Agave syrup

Pinch of salt in the shaker. Poured on the rocks, no salt on rim.

Blue Corn has a great Watermelon Kiwi on the rocks. They use muddled fruit and no syrup to extract the flavor.

I tend to go with the 2/1/1 Tequila/Lime/citrus liqueur recipe. I also add a couple slices of serrano because I like my margs to have some heat. Not too much, but enough to be known.

Correct. A good quality orange liqueur is needed. This one here makes a fantastic margarita.

I do the 2-1-1 ratio as others have stated above, and I will hit it with a touch of agave syrup to counterbalance the tartness of the lime.

I've recently stopped salting the rim and just toss a little salt into the drink. Anyone else do this?

A salted rim for the first drink is fine, but unless you're getting a new cup for each drink, it's a hassle to salt the rim of subsequent drinks. Salting the drink itself also works well if you're taking a big batch on the boat or to the beach.
