I would do anything to have her roast and rice/gravy just one more time.

Her cabbage casserole was awesome as well.

My Mawmaw made the best chicken and dumplings. I have her recipe and have tried to replicate it several times, but it just isn't the same.

My Meemaw made amazing homemade biscuits. She had no recipe. It was all by feel.

Soft shell crab on toast.

They lived on the water until the storm, had crab traps behind the house. She would keep them in a holding pen and check them daily to see if the were about to molt. Separate them from the others then clean and freeze them once soft. She never ran out.

Also roast and rice & gravy for mine. Also a hell of a shrimp gumbo and she didn't even eat shrimp. She'd literally just make it for everyone else to enjoy.

Roast 'n rice 'n gravy with maque choux. No one else's maque choux has ever compared.

Pork short rib jambalaya

And I wish I had a jar of her fig preserves.

ETA: Crawfish bisque. Oh man.

She did a bang-up chicken and dumplings which my wife can now duplicate. But NO ONE has approached her teacakes! Her old gas stove had a slot under the burners where you could slide in a thin pan. Somehow that process would just lightly crisp and brown the top of the teacakes, which I have not seen done since.

My maw maw made this spicy shrimp spaghetti that was so amazing. I've looked for recipes of something similar to no avail.

I'd fight mike tyson for a huge pot of that right now.

Had one grandmother that didn't know which end of a spoon to hold.

Other grandmother was great: fried chicken, biscuits, chicken and dumplings...but by far my favorite was her macaroni and cheese. She used those long macaroni noodles and it was great.

I said it last night. She called it "beef meat spaghetti" from my sweet MawMaw Femme.

It was more of seven steaks cooked down in tomato gravy served over noodles. She also made the best pot roast. It had beef meat, pork meat and calf liver in it. Cooked down in an onion gravy and served over rice.

She's still living but she doesn't remember how to cook, but she can tell you how many muskrats pelts they sold in the winter of 1935 or how many barrels of Shrimp my Pawpaw caught in 1955.

My MaMa was a wonderful woman from Vacherie who had a pretty tough life. She passed when I was 8. The thing I remember most from her was crawfish stew and chicken and sausage gumbo. We didn't go to her house nearly as much, she lived over an hour away and we mostly visited in the holidays and every other month or so.

On Mom's side.

My Dad's mom made the best chow chow known to mankind. And her Angel biscuits, CFS and gravy were awesome.
