Oh man, I lost a few brain cells in that place back in the 70s. There also was a place on St. Bernard Hwy, right next to the Jackson Barracks, that had a backroom which was like a mini Las Vegas - slots, poker games, crap tables. Was a good friend with a guy from Arabi, and we would meet at various places in da Parish. Sadly, he died awhile ago.

Or a drop less.
In the UK, the Weights and Measures Act requires pubs to use metering devices or other government-stamped equipment to pour liquor and other specified drinks. Free-pouring spirits is illegal in licensed venues.
For most common spirits—gin, rum, vodka, and whisky—bars must serve measures of either 25ml or 35ml, or multiples thereof. Pubs must clearly display which size they use. Bottles will have a gadget on them, or be mounted in a device, to control each pour.
Glasses will usually have lines on them to mark certain volumes, so you know you got the right amount of wine, beer, etc.
This is mandated to ensure fairness for customers by providing a consistent serving size.
Pubs also have clear signage noting the ABV% of beers. Their law required this back when it was actually illegal in the US for a beermaker to list the alcohol % (while wine and liquor had to list it).
Coors filed a lawsuit against the ATF regs that resulted in a 1995 Supreme Court case, Rubin v. Coors Brewing Company, that finally scrapped that rule here and allowed the consumer to know what ABV% beer he was getting.

I fish with a Mormon guy several times a year. I have never seen him drink an energy drink. Years ago, he drank alcohol, but stopped when he became a Mormon. Now, if we are fishing at night and the fish are biting, he will go off the reservations and drink a Mountain Dew -- but only if the fish are biting.

I always thought it was “hot” caffeine drinks. My Mormon employees won’t touch coffee but suck down diet Mountain Dew all day long.

We were staying in the little town outside Zion NP. There was a pizza place a block from the hotel. Wife and I were going to go order a pizza to bring back for the kids and have a beer while we waited. Put in the pizza order at the bar and ordered two beers. Bartender said we had to order food to get the beers. I said, “you know, you just took our pizza order?” He was like, “no that’s to go, you have to order something for here to get a beer…most people just get a salad.” I look at the menu and see they have big dinner sized salads and thinking I don’t want to have to get a big assed salad just to drink a beer while waiting for a pizza. He points down the menu to a $2 “side salad” shaking his head. Two beers and a side salad please.
Goofy place.
Goofy place.

That sounds like the little corner bar called DiMartino's on the corner of St. Claude----before it turned into St. Bernard Hwy. and Angella St. on the River side of the street.
It was notorious for gambling back then, as were many of the bars in St. Bernard with poker, blackjack, roulette, bookies taking bets on anything and everything, etc.

Asheville has that law. Every bar requires you to be a member because they only allow private clubs and no bars, so everywhere you go that doesn’t serve food has a $1 “membership fee”.

That's it! There was a guy who always hung out in there, Chuck, who worked as a paramedic with the Sherrif's Dept, and also got me out of a DWI charge. Early 80s he was in a bad motorcycle wreck, and had a leg amputated as a result. Chuck frequented that backroom and also had a friend in the State Police who wold tip him off as to when they were planning on raiding it.

When I was hanging around in "Da Parish" I knew of at least a dozen bars that had backroom poker games and other types of gambling and just about every bar had a bookie to take sports bets.
That pretty much came to an end when video poker became a thing since the bar could lose the machines if they ran illegal gambling in the place. Today, most bars rely heavily on the revenue those machines bring and can't afford to risk losing it over a poker game in the back room.

In SFO (the airport), they can't serve you a double. They will, however, serve you a single, and give you a shot right next to it. Nothing says efficiency and logic like San Francisco.

He won't touch any kind of caffeine, unless he wants to stay up late because the fish are biting.

I saw another poster says something about Mormons and caffiene... They don't drink it but they down energy drinks like there's no tomorrow. It makes no sense.
My SIL left Utah as she was going to be forced into a polygamous marriage. She did the typical go to the other end of the spectrum and move to Vegas. A lot of mormons are out there for that reason. Anyways, she says they always try to find loopholes around their archaic ways

Do they have "go cups"?

My wife ran into something similar at a conference in SLC last summer. There was a rooftop pool with food and bar service. They had to order food, so I think she told me they got some nachos or some other appetizer to split with their beer. They also cut off alcohol purchases rather early. I think she said around 7 or 8 PM. You could get a sealed bottle or a can from the little shop in the lobby, but also couldn't open it there, or take it anywhere in a public space like the pool. Had to take it back to your room.

Arizona won't serve a single person a pitcher of beer.
There during an LDU alabama game. 2012 or so.
My exact words to the bartender, "I'm a Cajun from Louisiana"
She brought me a pitcher, two glasses. And told my wife to enjoy her cocktail.
I know it saves a few bucks, but drinking a pitcher of progressively warming beer myself sounds... less than pleasant

The law only allowed him to serve one drink at a time. Apparently, I had to order a single drink and he could only serve me another after I finished the first one. He explained that, for example, if someone ordered a shot and a beer, he could only serve the beer after the shot was consumed.
So, could you order an Irish car bomb?

I've saw that in bars all over in the past. Owners do that so you get one 1.5 ounce "dose" of liquor and not a drop more. It's to prevent theft or generous bat tenders, usually.
Did you know those things are under pressure, and if you don't release the pressure, they blow out the liquor all over the bar?
Ask me how I know

Probably not. The bartender explained that he did have some leeway when the secondary ingredients of a cocktail contained some alcohol. So, you could probably get a manhattan even though it has vermouth added to the rye. But the car bomb would likely be on the other side of the line.
