This was about 6 years ago, but Zaytinya was fantastic.

Matchbox (pizza) was also pretty good.

Where are you staying?

What are your solid plans? How old are the kids?

DC Eater has a map for everything.

Oyamel is really good Jose Andre's, American Eats too if it's open.

Old Ebbit Grill next to the treasury is an interesting place. Still think their oysters were some of the best I've had.

1789 Restaurant in Georgetown is great - somewhat pricey though.

Any José Andrés restaurant will be solid. Oyamel, Jaleo, Zantinya, & China Chilcano are all in close proximity to each other.

Best Indian restaurant I've ever been to is in D.C. Rasika, order Palak Chaat (fried spinach). Really good food!

Also as many have mentioned, Filomena Ristorante for Italian is worth a visit.

If the family is into dim sum, the Da Hong Pao is an awesome option.

DC is a really good food city. Have fun

I think there’s a Wendy’s in Woodbridge that’s right next to 95.

I had dinner last night at Bresca, a nice neighborhood restaurant with a Michelin star. Their specialty is 21 day dry aged duck breast with a coriander and pink peppercorn crust, served with a savory tart made from the leg and thigh, and a braised apple salad. They press the carcass with a duck press tableside and make the sauce for the breast. It's one of the best dishes I have ever had. Unfortunately, it is spendy, and they only do four a night, so you have to get there early if you want one.

As mentioned twice already, Filomena. Keep in mind portion sizes are such that two people can share. Whatever you do, get dessert. The food is sinful.

Old Ebbitt was good and had a cool atmosphere.

There are tons of sketchy looking food trucks lined up around the National Mall on the weekend. The one that sells fresh churros is awesome.

Fiola Mare for truly high-end dining
LINK

Café Milano is outstanding

Others have recommended Old Ebbitt Grill - would have agreed a few years ago but they were bought by Clyde's and now have Clyde's menu - OK, but not memorable.

I 2nd Filomena’’s and Old Ebbit’s. Are there better more expensive restaurants? Yes. I don’t think that’s what you asked. Old Ebbit’s is almost like going to Pat O’s when in NO. You should do it at least once.
