Was given the diagnosis or news this weekend. I had no clue what it was even, thought broke a sesmoid bone actually.

Do you guys have a Gout for Dummies and simple cook type cookbook, foods, or whatever?

All you have to do is quit eating good food and stop drinking beer, wine and whiskey.

just look up high purine food and stay away from those for a while and then slowly introduce them one at a time and see if you find your triggers but in general avoid

salmon
organ meats
limit red meats in general

Go to your doctor and get a prescription for Alopurinol 300 mg tablet daily. Get on it and you will be able to eat whatever you want, as often as you want it. Some of the worst pain I ever had was the initial gout attacks I had, then I started taking the alopurinol and have had no problems for over 40 years, other than two times when I said, "I have no gout problems" and stopped taking the drug.

I figure I have taken almost 17,000 tablets so far.

Obesity is a huge risk factor for gout.

Yea but if he changes to your diet he runs the risk of turning into an insufferable lame douche bag. I'd rather gout AND diabeetus.

It’s the processed food in your diet that is causing the gout. Fructose specifically. Which is terrible as when your liver is bombarded with excess fructose, purine metabolism is upset and uric acid increases. Fructose also decreases uric acid elimination. Eating meat is fine, but avoiding excess sugar is priority.

Beer consumption is not advised, but whiskey, bourbons and other spirits should be fine.

Purine elimination is shite and will not help you. Need to figure out why your body will not naturally control the uric acid itself. The answer is typically fructose.

Take Allopurinol & eliminate added fructose or other sugars that break down to fructose.

I have read the other comments. I understand the pain you have with gout. The joints hurt like hell and the pain does not stop when you take the pressure that increases the pain away.

You hurt now and you will hurt the rest of your life, until your joints self destruct and you lose function.

Thousands of people take the drug I mentioned. It has been used for maybe 70 years to treat this metabolic problem. There are more expensive drug options that also work.

Good luck. I know the pain first hand, even though (thanks to my allopurinol) I have not experienced it in over 10 years, eating pretty much what I want to eat every day.

Doctor thought I had gout a couple years ago. I couldn't get a shoe on due to swelling and pain in my left big toe. My GP ordered lab tests and an x-ray. Uric acid was in range and the x-ray revealed nothing.

Ended up at a podiatrist and a 2nd x-ray that showed a bone chip floating around in the big toe joint. I still haven't had it removed and haven't had a flare up going on 2 years.

Take a 4 Aleve dose ( 880 mg Naproxin ) when you feel a flare-up coming on. ( you can usually feel a little irritation several hours before the bomb drops in the middle of the night )

Dont take Hydrochlorothiazide for blood pressure.

I've resisted taking Allopurinol because i don't want to have to take it forever.

Ive quelled any flare-ups for 7 years now.

ETA: Also, My Uric Acid has been way down since I lost 65 lbs with intermittent fasting. I was around 6.8 Last blood work.

I don't suffer from gout, but uric acid is the main cause of my kidney stone issue and Allopurinol has helped in that area to a great degree.

I still get the occasional stone, but not like I once did.

Get your doctor to prescribe Probenicid. It's an acid blocker. It works great most of the time. I only have one or two flare ups a year and that's if I really over-do it.

Pork and crawfish get me the worst. I can eat it on the medication as long as it is in moderation.
