I think some will stand the test of time (Phils, George's Southside, Brewbachers), but overall I think the younger generations just aren't enamored with fried seafood platters and poboys like the older folks were.
Casual sit down dining is not all that popular anymore. People either want to pay $75+/person or get some takeout slop/delivery. That’s how I see it anyways.

Jarreau and Jumonville have a potentially higher paying tenant apparently. I hope its a good concept. They raised the rent substantially. We'll see. Tossing a 30-year cash cow seems sus to me but I also don't have those guys creds nor balance sheet.

I heard a new Willie's. What a disappointment if true.

Willie’s is better than Sammy’s
Maybe not the Sammy’s of old, but for sure the Sammy’s of the past decade or so

You felt the need to save a whole "picious" in your post. Retarded.

Nah, mine like going to trendy restaurants with Instagram worthy photo ops. Photos are #1, the food is second priority.
You just described half of my nieces

The younger generation has learned the experience that Tiger Stadium in and Sam has gone the same route

The large majority of my memories of Sammy’s Highland are me driving past it wondering why the hell people were waiting in line to eat there
Not saying the food is bad but there’s nothing on that menu worth waiting 30 minutes to be seated for

What is Willie’s?
Restaurant/bar on Coursey that's somehow having success with overpriced food. People like the atmosphere.

meh...their prices seem about in line with most places these days.
sounds like this won't be a second Willie's though, they made it sound like it'll be a different concept

I haven’t been in years, but I was always a fan of the prime rib poboy. I’ve never been to the Prairieville location, do they still have it there?

What is the point of having a separate “property owner” when the restaurant has been there for 40 years? Should belong to them at that point.
“Sammy” actually did own both but he went broke after fricking over his head chef so he sold the restaurant and the property separately. Now here we are.

I’m guilty of this. If I’m spending the money to eat out I want something I can’t do at home. A fried seafood platter for 30 bucks does absolutely nothing for me.
If you want me to not cook at home you either need to provide quick cheap convenience because I don’t feel like cooking. If you’re not quick cheap and convenient then you better either have 1) access to ingredients that I can’t source or 2) ability to execute techniques that I can’t replicate.

Mid tier places that don’t serve specific niches are struggling.

Casual places seem to be much less busy lately. We eat out most days and have seen prices almost double. I think the issue is when 2 burgers with an appetizer, no drinks hits 60 bucks after a tip even people like us start to get bug eyed. I actually cooked something a few times last week
Higher prices, dirty tables and silverware, bad servers that want 30% tips and overall mediocre food is not a good business model.

Used to be my Go To on every visit back home. Was always really good. Past few years it has dropped off dramatically. To the point I haven’t gone the past couple trips. All the reasons in the OP. Sad to see something drop off like that.
Begs to question: is Mike Anderson’s back to being good. That was my original stop when in town back in 90s and early 2000s. They started dropping off dramatically and Sammy’s took its spot.
If not Mike Andersons, where is the new spot to get solid basic Cajun comfort food.

Is this one of the restaurants Sammy Nagem used to own? Whatever happened to him?
