I'm surprising my wife this weekend and taking her to Ruth's for the first time for our anniversary. What's the must get item there? Also we both prefer ribeye to filet, but could go either way. Is the ribeye really good there or should we get the filet? Maybe 1 of each and split them? Just don't want to drop that kind of coin and it just be alright. Yes I'm a cheapskate. Any must get sides and/or dessert?

You should get the bone in Rib Eye and get her the Filet. The sides are shareable so whatever the two of you can agree on. Tell them it is your anniversary and you will likely get a free dessert to share.

Also, get the crab cakes as an appetizer.

I get the NY Strip. But you won’t go wrong with any of their steaks. By all means get the ribeye if that’s what you prefer.

Pro tip: you can get all of the sides and soups in half sizes at the location in BR. If it’s just you two and you want to try multiple, you might find that key.

The shittiest ribeye in the world will always taste better than the best filet ever.

BBQ Shrimp app.
Mozz and Heirloom tomato salad, and a wedge salad.
Strip is really good. I'd go ribeye and strip for steak.
Lobster mac n cheese, potatoes au gratin or creamed spinach.

The sweet potato casserole side is like a dessert.

The creamed spinach side is very good---and pretty rich too, so a little goes a long way.

I live down the street and eat there much more than I should.

Get the Ribeye no question. The filet is their signature steak and is good, you wouldn't go wrong getting one for her and sharing between y'all.

Get the Au Gratin potatoes no matter what else you do. They are divine.

Get the sweet potatoes as your dessert. Have them put a scoop of ice cream on it.

Go to Crescent City Steak House over Ruth's Chris. Ruth's is over-priced garbage.

My go to is that and the creamed spinach. I usually order the ribeye for the steak

Haven't been in years though

We always end up ordering too much food and have to take some home. My advice is to make sure you finish your steak first since the sides will reheat better.

I'd say you're looking at $150 minimum if you keep the cocktail consumption down to 1 each.

Last time I was in Ruth's Chris was the one downtown. I ordered me a rum and coke, the wife a house chardonnay and another couple we were meeting showed up and I got them each a cocktail. I paid the tab at the bar before being seated and it was just under $50 for 2 mixed drinks and 2 glasses of house wine.

I'll echo all of the above and add that the Chopped Salad is excellent.

I'd go chopped salad, bone in ribeye, creamed spinach, au gratin potatoes, a good bold red wine and an old fashioned or two. Yep, that sounds pretty damn good.

That doesn't seem outrageous at a nice restaurant.

Yeah, I know it's now the norm for drinks at nice restaurants and tourist traps to be in the $10 and up range.

Guess that's why I prefer to buy my own prime steaks and grill at home. I can cook all the sides you can get at Ruth's Chris and a nice bottle of wine to go with it for a lot less than sitting down and having it brought out to me.

Its fantastic. You and your wife will have a great time. get whatever steak (or fish) you want They will be perfectly cooked.

I've had several of the sides. Always good, just get what you like.

Get the desserts and if you like coffee try an espresso as well.

Have fun.

The will probably split the steaks and you each get a half of each on your plates. Just tell the waiter, they will probably do it. It so they can keep the playing pretty and it won’t look like you are at Golden Corral, sharing a steak.
