Besides All-Clad what would you all recommend? Also knife sets that wont break the bank.

What type of material are you looking for in your cookware?

I think allclad is a rip off personally.

I'd consider the above misen basic set. I don't understand the need for 10 piece cookware sets and such. Seems like overkill to me.

Wustof classic if you can swing it. If not, get a small set of Vitorinox. The Chefs knife is perfect.

I love my all clad. However, I wouldn’t by a set. I picked up many of my pieces at TJ Maxx and Marshall’s for a fraction of the price. They always have skillets, sauté pans and stock pots. The sauce pots seem harder to find there. Be patient and there are great deals to be had.

We use Made In. It's the best cookware I've ever used.

Tramontina makes a very good 12 piece all-clad set for a great price ($700). It's actually on sale quite often if you are patient and keep looking. I bought my set from Amazon for about $280. Wayfair currently has it on sale for $330. They also make a really good teflon skilletin various sizes. I have the 8", 10" and 12". You can round it out with Nordicware baking sheets and an enameled cast iron dutch oven by Lodge.

Knives are a little tricker, IMO. There are lots of great options, but fit and feel is important if you're going to spend a lot of time chopping, dicing, slicing, etc. I use a Henckels chef's knife. Mac Mighty MTH-80 is a great choice that stays sharp and has good knuckle clearance. The Wustof Icon is a great choice. If $$$ is a factor, Victorinox Fibrox Pro is a fantastic option for a chef's knife. They also make a good paring knife and curved bread knife. I cant help with a knife set as I always felt that you end up with a knife or three that's poor quality that way.

A lot of my stuff I have purchased from restaurant supply stores and webstaurantstore.com for good prices. I figured if the pros use that stuff, then it should be good enough for me. It's not the pretty things that most home cooks buy, but I'm not buying this stuff to display. I'm buying it to prep food and i want it to hold up to abuse that it will never see.

Cookware. For soups and stews I use my McWare (Magnalite Knockoff) roaster 80% of the time.

I recently got a Shun chefs knife and santoku, and have been very happy with them so far. Not sure what you consider breaking the bank, they're not cheap but not super high-end expensive.

Absolutely love my Calphalon set with the sharpening deal. Every time you insert and remove the knife, you drag it across ceramic rods.

This is what I asked for this Christmas, and I absolutely love it so far. It has been rated at the top by various gadget/cookware websites -- even higher than the All Clad brand in some instances.

build your own set. i find the pre-made sets have knives you never really use. I have a combination of shun's and henckels. The Henckels are over 15 years old and still sturdy arse hell and only need sharpening every 4-6 months.

ive owned a set of Henckels classics for over 20 years and love them. However, the santoku I got later is my favorite knife

I own quite a bit of All Clad but find myself using cast iron and ScanPan more than anything.
