Went early this morning and had the butcher cut an 8lb roast. He gave me the chuck end that was marbled up really nice. Best price you will find right now. The butcher told me he was shocked they are selling them at this price and probably using the sale to get people in the store.

They did this sale last year but it was $5.69/lb. I bought enough to cut all my steaks for the year, and I picked smaller roasts with the best marbling over a few trips to get the best steaks. They were awesome, and obviously you can't beat the price.

The butcher picked a good one for me that had alot of marbling. He said always ask for a chuck end of the ribeye. Said that was the best.

Publix right now has standing rib roast for like $6.79 right now.

I bought one over the weekend and smoked it on my ceramic grill. First one ive ever done and was awesome. Plan on doing another for Christmas.

Every Christmas whole ribeyes go on sale. The meat companies lock in deals months in advance. The grocer orders a load a week from the meat company throughout the year and the meat company in return gives them a locked in price for one shipment during Christmas. This happens all year long for different items and is how meat companies and grocers do business.

Yes, the stores use this sale to get you in the store.
Same reason why turkeys sell for 25 cents a pound during Thanksgiving.

What you have to watch for when meat prices are high and the sales are extremely low, is the supply the grocer has. Sometimes each store will only get 1-2 cases and when they are out, they are out. Also, some stores will only put a few packs out each day so someone doesn't come and buy them all, that way they have more for the next day to keep people happy. Albertsons is famous for this.

Prime rib isn't necessarily prime, though there is USDA Prime prime rib. Can't imagine it would be bad.

Hey now, the Rancher's Select beef tenderloins for $6 when they get that low are great.

But actual choice meat sounds like it time to stock up.

I can never find a butcher when I go. And as expected when I got there they had only 1 rib roast in the beef section. I should have walked away because the marbling wasn't very good, but didn't want to waste the trip. Got home and planned on trimming into bone-in ribeyes. Get one good steak and have to cut out the other bone because the bone was diagonal and I wanted 3 even steaks not 2 steaks and 2 triangle shaped pieces of meat. Oh well, lesson learned. Find a butcher or walk away.

What really pissed me off is that I weighed it when I got home and it weighted 4.88 lbs, not the 4.99 lbs I paid for. I know it's not much, and probably not intentional. But wtf Burbank Winn-Dixie? (I tested my scale with 200 mL of water and it read 200mg so it's not my scale.)

Primal was probably cut a day or two before you bought it, drying out weight loss maybe? /shrug

You'll need a whole ribeye roast for that. Choice or Prime.

Yes. I was at Kroger tonight and almost got a bone in rib roast for $15 (with the Kroger card). Wasn't a huge rib roast but for our family it would've been perfect.

I just got a turkey to cook last week but if I hadn't, I would've grabbed it. That's a great price.
