That space will likely rot into nothingness, unfortunately. I hope I am wrong about that tho.

Bistro Italia also moved to their new location about 100 yards from Portobellos about 5-6 months ago. Portobellos undoubtedly lost business because of that.

Have heard great things about it since moving to that location. Portobellos was going down hill prior to that. But that was probably the nail in the coffin for sure. I hate it for them, as I was a a fan of portobellos years ago.
I wish they could tear down that shopping center its connected too, along with those apartments right there and build up some nicer shopping, and restaurants.

The rest of the building already has, and that's a shame in what should be a prime location.
Sad to see the restaurant go. Was a go-to spot for my family for a long time.

Bisto Italia's entrees are very good and the portions are huge. The restaurant itself is not exactly elegant or mood setting for a romantic date night, but if you are just looking to chow down on some Italian fare its a fine choice.

I didn't realize that solou was part of this restaurant group. SoLou is trash. PBeaus was pretty cool when it first opened, I went there a few times. Service started to be not so great, which is why we stopped going.
I just read this tho, definitley the timeframe i noticed a negative shift in the food and management at portobellos

I disliked the changes too, but for the opposite reason.
They overhauled the menu to basically be Ruffino's when he parted ways with Ruffino's. Down to even the names of the dishes (Veal Michael was called Veal Michelle). When he left Ruffino's, Ruffino's went from being just okay to being pretty damn awesome. It's very good currently. Not sure what they did differently because this was before they hired their current talented chef.

Can you share anymore details? I was told Palermo was going in there. Also, looks like someone is cleaning up the old Velvet Taco.

The one in Foley Alabama closed few weeks ago. Wonder if it's the same people. Place went downhill after Covid

Do you mean the Velvet Cactus on Old Hammond?
Assuming you do, good luck to whomever tries to open the next restaurant there. That location has become a graveyard for BR restaurants. At least in the last 20 years it has been:

The restaurant business is brutal. Even for successful restaurants. When I was a kid I thought owning a restaurant would be one of the coolest jobs ever. Then I dated a girl in college whose parents owned/operated restaurant. Once I got a behind the scenes look at that life and the constant pain it is all delusions of wanting that lifestyle evaporated.

We went there a couple weeks ago, it was ok.
They had one across from Mike Anderson’s on West Lee, didn’t last too long.
They had a Portobellos going South out of Plaquemine. I think Mark Maggio had the building first, might have been his last place before his death.

I am so disappointed in this closure. Close to home. The Jones Creek area lost Kabob's Greek and Lebanese restaurant at Christmas 2025. Outback closed a few months later in spring. Now Portabello's is gone. City Cafe and Jasmine on The Bayou own this area's customers. Just a fact.

The only complaint I had about Portabello was their playing soft rock and roll in an Italian restaurant. It was like wearing shorts and flip flops to church. It just didn't work. That wasn't the mood of the place on Friday and Saturday evening, but...I ate their regularly anyway.
