Currently leaning towards NOLA or Second Line, but I can be persuaded to go elsewhere. I've also heard good things about the Bayou Beer Garden.

Only go to Second Line if you hate beer and atmosphere. It's probably the worst place in the city for beer.

If you want one stop, it's going to be Courtyard or Avenue. I'd put Avenue over Courtyard, personally. People that are suggesting Barrel Proof as a nice perk to Courtyard are forgetting that Avenue has a bourbon/whiskey selection that is just as good as the beer selection, and her prices are not bad at all.

NOLA is good. Urban South is below NOLA.

I've seen a couple people recommend Tchoup Yard, that's definitely not a place I would go.

What other beers does courtyard make? I'm not a fan of IPA's, taste like bitter lawn trimmings to me.

They make / host a good collection of other styles but they really specialize with their IPAs.

Just know that although it has "Courtyard" in the name, it's not the outdoor oasis you may be envisioning. If you're looking for a combination of good beer, lively atmosphere, and good BBQ, I'd reccommemd Nola.

This is no knock whatsoever on Courtyard. They are offering the best beer in the city. If you have the time, you should definitely catch your first drink at Courtyard then take a quick Uber to Nola for the next few rounds.

OP go to Avenue Pub. Best bar in the city and will have a nice variety. Plus you can sit on the balcony and overlook St. Charles.

I can't argue against Avenue Pub either. It even has the outdoor aspect with their balcony overlooking St. Charles.

I'm seeing Courtyard is hosting the Louisiana Hops Festival on April 20th. I'll be in town that week and haven't been to Courtyard yet. Does anyone know if this event will be worth checking out?

Avenue Pub sounds like a great option as well. Thanks for the advice all.

Someone sounds butthurt.

Second Line's beer is good. The russian imperial stout is fire. Alryte Alryte Alryte is also a great well balanced DIPA. it's old school #nothazy

The atmosphere is always great with 95% locals unlike NOLA who is swarmed with tourists.

From my perspective, no one brewery stands out over the others. I haven't been to Royal yet but the other 6 breweries open, they're all putting out good stuff.

I've been to Boston & Denver the past two months and have had some really bad beer in both cities. New Orleans is lucky that any brewery you pick you'll be able to find a beer that you really enjoy.

Even though none stand out as the best in the city, Brieux Carré would get my vote. Awesome owners, great beer and location location location.

And thanks to those who suggested taking a Tour with us! For the record, it's $70, 3.5 hours, and you get 6 beers (8-12 ounce) with your purchase. We also pickup and drop off at Avenue Pub, so you can kill two birds with one stone.

Everyone pick a side. Courtyard, Avenue, or NOLA. Settle it the old fashioned way.

Why would I be? I've barely interacted with anyone there on a personal level outside of Russell, and I have always liked him. And I don't even know if he's still there.

It's objectively not. It's terrible. Their beer is full of off flavors, some of which are so potent that the beer becomes undrinkable. I've absolutely had more drainpours there than beers I've enjoyed.

There is zero visual appeal; it's a physically unattractive space. And I believe I read that the OP is traveling with friends, so I doubt he's looking to strike up a conversation with strangers. The locals vs. tourists point is irrelevant. Why you throwin' shade at NOLA, baw?

Well Brewery Bus businessman, I understand you have to keep things in an even keel, but not many will agree with you that Second Line is really on the same level as Courtyard. Might be close to Nola I guess.
And one can get better beers for sure at the Pub.

The guy whose business is bringing swarms of tourists to breweries is complaining about a brewery being swarmed with tourists.

We've done tours with lots of locals. And I'm not complaining about the atmosphere at NOLA.

I love the atmosphere there, and we take at least 3-4 tours there a week. Which is more than other breweries. 004 IPA is incredible. The sours are on par with any good sour brewery in the country.

I'm not sure if you read my post. He said don't go to second line. I said no second line is good. Russian imperial stout is fire, the DIPA is good, and it's 95% locals.

I would do BBG/BWG personally. Not a brewery but its a great outdoor bar and there will be far, far more females their, if you're interested in such things.
