I’ve always used charcoal to grill with, but my charcoal grill has bit the dust. I’ve decided to go the way of grilling with pellets. What pellet grills would you recommend or stay away from? I’m torn which way to go. TIA

I have a Yoder. It is nice and reliable. The food tastes a lot different than a charcoal grill, but it is very good.

I’ve had one about 8years. They function as a smoker and grill, which is nice, and regulating the temperature is easy too. I think traeger prices have normalized now, but I bought a Pitt boss from academy and it’s been going strong.

I have a blackstone as well but I rarely use it bc the pellet grill is too damn easy.

Just saying, I’ve used everything under the sun and even Jerryrigged some custom setups but finally tried a pellet grill and freaking love it. I don’t even understand how it tastes so great but it do be that way.

I went with a cheap Pitt Boss from Walmart. No regrets. Love that thing and use it way more than I thought I would

Been an off-set smoker guy my whole life and thoroughly enjoy using one. Picked up a RecTec pellet smoker last year to give them a try and I be damned if it’s not some of the best and easiest BBQ I’ve ever cooked. It actually hurts me to say this as I have talked mad shite about pellets smokers and the people that used them. Zero complaints with the RecTec so far as when you set the temp on it there are no crazy fluctuations. It maintains temp within one or two degrees without the wild swings others have trouble with.

I only use my pellet grill to smoke meats. I bought a used Pit Boss off my neighbor for $40 and it worked great for several years. I ended up upgrading to Weber Smoque this year and its been great. Either one is fine as long as it can maintain temp.

I use an older Weber grill for my grilling and have a newer Weber that I put an insert in for a flattop for a blackstone like grill. But the pellet is only used for smoking.

I have a yoder and a Blackstone. I like to cook pork chops, chicken and steak on 250 then seer it on the Blackstone.

I definitely thought less of pellet smokers for a long time until I finally got tired of nursing a fire in a smoker all night for a brisket. Set the temperature and go to bed amd sleep like a baby. Its cheating and im perfectly fine with it.

I had a basic pit boss from costco for a few years and loved it way more than i expected. I upgraded to a coyote last year and it's been great as well, it's very well made.

Same here. I got one almost 2 years ago, and it has been phenomenal. I have done longer smokes, 12 hours, and 4 to 6 hour smokes as well. We will crank it up to 450 and do steaks or other quick cooks on it as well.

I got Traeger years ago and love it. Super easy and good quality. I had to apologize to my FIL and a few buddies after giving them crap for years prior telling them they were just cooking in a easy bake oven lol.

Only real difference I noticed was the overall smoke flavor was lacking initially. Fixed it buying a smoker tube to put inside of the smoker with the meat, works great!

I'm a diehard Oklahoma Joe's offset smoker guy but my son recently got a Pit Boss pellet grill and I must admit, it's very good. I may be getting one.

Higher temps (like for actual grilling) produce negligible smoke which is good because I don't want burgers, for example, having a smoky taste. Lower temps for smoking produce the smoke you'd expect. But the nicest aspect is temp control. Babysitting my offset was fun at first, but that gets old. With the pellet grill's automatic temp control and 2 temp probes, and the fact you can control everything from a cellular device, smoking meat is effortless.

If you like the flavor a charcoal grill gives and the ease of a pellet grill, get the Masterbuilt Gravity series. I did and absolutely love it.

I use mine several times per week and love it. Even got a small portable one for travel. Neighbors smell the smoke and are always asking me “what’s for dinner tonight?”.

Since we’re amongst friends here, does anyone have any tips for easier cleaning? I vacuum out the dust and clean mine thoroughly every so often (I know when it needs it), but it’s a bit of a messy pain in the arse. I keep the deflector covered with foil, which helps (I generally don’t ‘grill’ on it so I don’t need to open and close it), but that’s it. Any other helpful hints?

I've had a treagar for a long long time, one of the original ones that really can only smoke. It has held up well.

Curious if anyone has used the camp chef wood wind pro that has the box to put real wood chunks in

I have a recteq and it’s great. Although traditional grilling not really a thing in my model as I don’t have direct heat. Bought sear plates etc, and it gets wicked hot, but it’s not the same as open flame grill.

I use the shite out of it though.

ETA:

Smoke tube to get extra smoke flavor is clutch for things like butts and brisket.
