I didn't know about this pay to play specifically. Just assumed it was standard practice for influencers. I haven't considered going to any of his recommendations for a few years now because I figured he was a shill for lots of new restaurants trying to gain traction on the scene.

Larry Miller(Nina comptons husband) had a post about it

Yeah looking at his post it definitely looks scummy to do that. Not surprised to see T and W and compere lapin dogging it, but they are places that don't need to be on some slobs top 50 list. Kin gets props for standing up to that practice. They've managed to succeed in a small place in a rough part with no parking because their food is good.

Do you have any links to the folks who are butthurt over this ?
Don't think it's anything to be "butthurt" over but I don't agree with it and will simply chose to unfollow people that do this.
I don't follow social media accounts to see which places pay them the most.
That's no different than the Net Neutrality that Congress keeps trying to kill. Rewarding the highest payers creates a feedback loop that ices out the smaller name places. But I guess this is "socialism" so it'll be considered evil.

Apparently, people are snapping them up as well.
So she's selling a list that people could easily put together themselves and turning a profit?
Good for her (I have no idea who "she" is). I don't see a problem with this in the slightest.

If they call it a Top 50 and it's pay to play then that's just false advertising.
If it's just called "50 Must Do Mardi Gras Foods" and leave out the "Top" or "Best" then I don't see an issue with it.

Like every top X list ever, so what? It’s entertainment...never was supposed to be truth. It’s someone’s dumb arse opinion. Even if they are a good writer.

Right or wrong to sell social media advertising to unwitting tourists?
How is it any different than the Best of 225 lists and similar?

They must be making bank because the list has expanded to 100.

This is that he's asking restaurants to pay him in order to put their place on his list, correct?
(If so, scummy.)
Also, just for the math, he gains to make $17,500 if every spot is filled.

Seems like pretty cheap advertising if this person has any actual influence. I see no problem with this. Anyone that relies on "Top whatever" lists to plan their vacations should really know better by now anyway

Calling yourself “the top foodie in NOLA” is easily one of the most douchey things I’ve ever read.

I’ve never heard of this site or “account.” Frankly, I don’t give a shite.

He has every right to do it, I just feel like it's a way to lose any credibility very quickly.

Not sure if it will be Best or Top, but they are asking 10x the amount for 1-5 vs 40-50.

Spend 2 minutes going through his posts and you will question why anyone would give him credibility.

When you make a name pitching something as your "opinion" and it comes out that it's not really, then what are you pitching?
ETA, For the record, I have no idea who this is, so they weren't really pitching anything to me anyway. I'm just saying.

Guy's instagram looks like nothing but barbecue and Popeye's.
I guess that's cool if that's what he likes, but what the hell is he "influencing" as far as being some sort of overall New Orleans "foodie expert"?
