Not sure about calling out the social media darling, so not being purposely cryptic, you will know the account, just don't want to bring negative media to the account if it doesn't deserve it.

That said, the influencer has decided to offer places on a top 50 list of must do Mardi Gras foods for a price. Apparently, people are snapping them up as well.

Right or wrong to sell social media advertising to unwitting tourists?

The influencer trend is when I officially became an old “get off my lawn” man.

Don’t get it

I pity those who sell their integrity for money.

I didn't know what term to use because he isn't a critic and isn't in the food industry. Just runs a social media account.

Don’t see an issue here.

Seems correct. Just a person who farms followers via several means and then gets companies to pay them to advertise their products

I guess I do kinda get it

They are the ones buying the spots on the list. More money for higher up the list.

The dude is a big District Donut fan. I wouldn't have much faith in his list anyway.

I wonder what TulaneLSU is charging for his reviews. Probably commanded 5 krugerrands from Golden Corral alone.

It's eating Nola, and they were asking restaurants for money to be included on their must eats list for Mardi gras.

Thanks for the heads up. Unfollowed. I see a couple restaurants are upset with them too. One even got blocked by them.

Do you have any links to the folks who are butthurt over this ?

I know you will find this comment crazy but it’s those pesky liberals again. At least that’s the case with the few accounts I see with the butthurt. Bunch of broke arse hipster foodies with blogs. They just aren’t smart enough to figure out how to get that paper from their “talent”. Anyone familiar with this “influencer” knows he is a smart successful business man. Just a classic example of haters gonna hate. Maybe instead of protesting collapsed buildings they should be out their working on their hustle like this “influencer”.

This is nothing new. Plenty of traditional publications do this with their “Best of New Orleans” list. I know several local businesses that pay to be on those list. I believe it’s called advertising.

As long as he’s telling people they paid to be on a list, what’s the issue?
