What other pots are just as good? I grew up seeing my grandmother cook big family meals in Magnalite roasters and the like. I've been reading a bit about Cajun Classic, Imusa (on Amazon) and others that seem like they should perform just as well as a Magnalite. It's my wifes' birthday soon, shes a great cook and loves to cook...........what say you? Suggestions for alternatives or if I should just stick to a tried and true product?

I grew up the same way you did. Magnalite was good stuff.

Spoil her. Give her an All Clad piece every time you can. It's expensive, but it cleans easy and she will love it.

My gumbo pot is a Tramontina. It has a thick bottom and simmers well. Amazon carries almost everything they have. Just like the All Clad, I prefer stainless steel.

My parents use their Magnalite all the time

I have my great grandmothers Guardian pots, I don’t use them though

Yes, Tramontina fan here too. All I use these days for anything “liquid” based. Very nice clad bottom and even heat distribution.

Like you I grew up watching my mom and grandmother cook with Magnalite and have used it myself for decades. Great cookware no doubt. Broke down several years ago and bought a few Le Creuset pieces. Still have my Magnalite stuff but Le Creuset is my go to. Very even cooking, easy to clean and just overall high quality. They are heavy - similar to cast iron but heavier with the enamel.

You wanting thick aluminum? What’s your budget? Cook on gas, electric, or inductions?

Staub and Le Creuset are awesome, but if you’re looking for a gift for your wife, I’d suggest something lighter like All Clad. The enameled cast iron stuff is heavy. My wife hates dealing with it.

So your parents sued Magnalite and they gave you a full set of pans and your wife made you put them in the attic? That's quite a tale Cpt.

I have a ton of old Magnalite stuff from my Granny and Mom. That and cast iron are all I cook in.
