We love Macallan 15 for special occasions. Anything similar in taste for roughly half the price?

Try Glenfarclas 12. It has some peat and sherry like macallan.
Strahan's Sherry Cask,a Colorado distillery, may also work.

If it’s just for special occasions then why not just stay with the Macallan?

If it’s for nightly drinks and you just want something cheaper, try Glendronach Revival.

Part of the issue with answering is which 15 year? If it is the double cask then the obvious answer is Macallan 12 Double Cask.

If you want to branch out but still like the Macallan flavor profile I find the base spirit from Glenlivet, Glenmorangie, and Glenfarclas are the closest of the easy to find whisky. As mentioned the Glenfarclas 12 is a good option but will have a more Sherry forward taste than the double cask Macallans.

Scotch taste database . Use this database to find other similar scotches.

If you are talking about the Macallan 15 fine oak, that is cluster E

E – Medium-bodied, medium-sweet – with fruity, honey, malty and winey notes, some smoky and spicy notes may be evident (e.g., Auchentoshan 12yo/18yo, Dalmore 12yo, Glenrothes Select Reserve/Vintage 1989/1991/1992/1994, Old Pulteney, Redbreast 12yo)

That's why he is asking; he's looking for suggestions. You need a cup to catch all that pompousness that is dripping from you

OP, grab yourself a Craigalachie 13. It's about $60 and drinks better than Macallan IMO.

Glendronach 12.

Half the price, both Highlands, and both finished in sherry casks.

Probably my favorite Scotch.

Thank you for all the suggestions. Heading to civilization this weekend and will update on the bottle or three we get. I knew I could count on this board.

I don't drink enough scotch to be able to do the comparison thing, but I like the Aberlour brand. Pretty much all ages and variations are nice to excellent. I'd guess most are cheaper that Mac 15.

upvote for Glendronach. It's a shame the 18 has gone from $150 to over $200

Where does Highland Park land on the chart? And in comparison to the ones being mentioned?

I’m not well versed on scotch so I’m not sure how this compares to the macallan, but the craigalachie 13 is a great drink.

That link has a database with a ton of scotches you can search. There are a lot of highland parks, type in the name, and click on the item and it will give you a cluster on the graph.

Glenlivet 15

I had a bottle of Glenlivet 1964 that I bought at a whiskey run in Scotland. By the time I got to the Glenlivet distillery, I was feeling pretty good and bought 2 bottles. One I drank and one I kept. It was bottled in 2004, so a 40 year old. I bought them in 2006.
