Leaving coffee grounds in maker until the next day…

Anyone do this? For some reason it irks me. My wife doesn’t see anything wrong with it…just empty the old filter and spent grounds, put a new one in and grind the beans.
To me it seems like a perfect place for bacteria to fester, it being wet and warm. I wash it out and dry it…even if it’s that evening before I get around to it.
Am I being OCD?

No
I've accidentally left grinds in for a couple days and have opened it to see white mold on top.

Dude, you eat raw hamburger meat.

I wouldn’t if you left it on the counter over night.

No- I make a pot of coffee almost every morning. I make my big cup before I leave for work, then my son makes his mug. He dumps the grounds, rinses the pot and the grounds basket and stands the basket on its side to crack the lid and make sure the moisture fully dries between uses. It’s just lazy to not take 2 minutes to take care of that every day.

So going through the trouble to grind beans every morning, only to place them in a pier dish?
Buy her a Keurig and put a lock and key on "your" coffee pot.

Have done it every single day for 10 years now.

Moisture + organic materials (the coffee grounds) left to soak in your coffee machine is gross. Leaving anything wet to settle is gross. This should be a simple conversation.

Yeah, don’t see the big deal with leaving the grounds in the coffee maker overnight. I’ve never had any ill effects. I’m also not a coffee snob.

Coffee grounds and filters go to the compost pile daily. We drink a lot of coffee.

Not being OCD. I get ticked when the wife empties it and just puts it back into the coffee maker without as much as a rinse, much less a wash.
I ALWAYS wash it when I remove the grinds and also clean the pot, inside and out when I finish the coffee. It takes all of a couple minutes to do, so why not do it.

I leave the used keurig pod in there until the next day, every day.

I rinse, but never wash.
On a tangent, how many folks here re-use their coffee cup multiple days? If you do re-use it do you rinse, or just drink it/pour out whatever is left and wait for the next day. I have a coffee cup at work that I use daily (2-3 cups a day) and haven’t washed in a couple of years. Just like my cast iron pots, it is well seasoned.

I do leave them at least until later the same day. To me they are easier and less messy to dump when they have dried out some.

Just put a shot of bleach in it every mornin baw

I usually don’t think to empty the grounds out until I make another pot which is usually the next day. If there are loose grounds in the basket after dumping the old filter in the trash I will rinse those out. I’ve never gotten sick from it. My guess is that the hot water kills most bacteria that may have grown in there.
