Latil's Landing at Houmas House Plantation Review

Last night I brought my girlfriend to Latil's Landing for her birthday dinner. We decided to do it right and get the chef's tasting menu and it certainly did not disappoint.
The 7 courses were:
The crab was really nice and tasty, the basil dressing complimented it quite well. The avocado and mango worked really nice. Great starter.
I'm not a big white wine fan really, but this Sauvignon from Duckhorn was great. Not overly sweet and a bit dry.
I actually subbed this for the curried crawfish and pumpkin bisque. The soup I had was incredible. My girlfriend got the cheese and oyster bisque. It was quite tasty, but I'm glad I went with the pumpkin. This wine wasn't my favorite of the evening by any means, but lady politiceaux seemed to enjoy it.
The star of the night! The lobster was cooked perfectly and the risotto was phenomenal. Seasoned well, and the crawfish in the risotto, tomatoes and butternut squash all worked really, really well together. Oustanding.
A nice palate cleanser. Good presentation in a colored sugar-rimmed martini glass.
The filet was seasoned well and cooked to a perfect medium rare. It was actually larger than I expected, which was a nice surprise. The horseradish mashed potatoes and asparagus were both great as well. This pinot was my favorite wine of the night. Not overly sweet and complimented the steak well. Very nice.
The kumquat chutney in this dish really paired well with the brie. Quality cheese for sure. The wine pairing was good, in my opinion. Really nice toasted bread.
~Dessert~
Phenomenal end to the meal. The pear was outstanding. The red velvet powder was a nice touch with each item Good wine.
Overall, a wonderful dining experience. I won't hesitate to return. I will probably be ordering from the regular menu next time, but am really glad that I had the tasting menu.
Worth the $385? That's really hard to say on a meal for only two. It was a really memorable night spent with a beautiful woman and fantastic food though. I know she loved it, and I did as well.
Try this gem out if you get the chance.

That sounds great. Awesome review.
Is this the place in Darrow? And it sounds like the most ambitious restaurant in the BR area.

Glad it worked out, it is a once or twice a year place for us, I like going in the spring

I love it and would not hesitate to spend that money on a dinner like that. That's the cost of dining well and you would spend that much doing the same at any other restaurant.
Glad you enjoyed it.

Can't wait to go to Latil's one day, but That tab is quite shocking. Sounds excellent otherwise!

You can say that again. The first time I went there we did appetizers, soups, entrees and booze and it was less than $150. I look forward to the day I'm balling enough for the tasting menu.

Yeah. It's on River Rd., not that far off of I-10 (Gonzales, Hwy. 44 exit).

Yes, it is located in Darrow (Really the Gonzales area) With out a doubt, the best restaurant in the BR area. You can't beat the food and the atmosphere. Meal sounds awesome.

That can certainly be done off of the regular menu, and is what I'll do next time. The tasting menu was $100/person. The wine pairing was $45/person. $290 for two people, plus tax was $315. Tip at about 25-30%% brought it up to $385. I'm no baller, I had Mineral Rights Law with you last year.

Ah, that's right. Well hopefully we'll both be ballers soon enough.

You can get out a lot cheaper off the regular menu, but tasting menu is worth doing at least once, and they certainly don’t skimp on the wine.
For anyone going, go early and enjoy the turtle bar…

I believe this is my favorite restaurant in the Baton Rouge area, and well worth the drive. We've been several times, and have never been disappointed. It is also a different environment from the vast majority of BR restaurants, which is nice.
Thanks for the review! I want to return asap!

One of my favorite places, especially in the Spring with the grounds bursting in color.

If you think it's better that's an opinion. If you think it's "not even close" then you probably have not dined at either one.
And Bernadettes is up there with both of them.
