Apparently the state has been getting busy getting after places who sell foreign seafood and don't tell their customers.

When I clicked on the link in the article, one of the first places to pop up was Juban's.

LINK

51 - 1107 - Imported crawfish and shrimp are not identified as specified by law

It's going to be real interesting as we find out who is selling foreign stuff and not telling us.

Well St Luke’s and Tara High School got popped too.

I don’t eat shrimp or crawfish at Jubans.

So it's only for crawfish and shrimp?

So places will continue to serve basa/swai as catfish I guess.

I’ve only been there a few times but I’ve found Jubans to be pretty overrated

That list appears to be just a notice of who was recently inspected in general, not crawfish violations.

What a shitty link by Fox8.

I really liked it 15+ years ago but it's been pretty average the last few times I've had too.

When I was working in the industry I switched from swai/basa to grouper or trigger in my tacos. Price increase was about $3.50 per serving. Within a week i started getting complaints that the fish was too fishy and it cost too much. “We much preferred that white fish that didn’t taste fishy you were serving” 70% of the customer base was middle America on vacation. I decided to go back to Asian white fish and have fresh local fish available for those that wanted to pay for it. Profit margin was much better satisfying the masses from middle America that want to eat seafood that doesn’t taste fishy.

To be fair, a lot of the restaurants that are getting fined is because many restaurants use both local and imported shrimp/crawfish depending on supply.

Even better is the link to more information on the law where they just link you to an old WAFB newscast on the matter. Straight up WAFB vieo with the CBS logo in the corner of the screen with a brief WAFB written piece below the video.

They couldn't even write their own article or find one from one of their network partners. They just glommed onto another network station from another city.

A buddy of mine who is in the business told me that he uses basa instead of Louisiana catfish because the flavor of the catfish varies, and he was having too many people who would get a “bad” piece and complain about the “fishy” taste and send it back. He said basa is consistent and never varies. No flavor but that’s what most people want.

Agreed - maybe 15 or 20 years ago I went and thought it was great... but the 3x over the past decade were forgettable.

I think this thread is a little dishonest. How do you know Jubans didn't properly disclose foreign shrimp and crawfish? Nothing linked says that. here is the actual text of the inspection:
Enter Keyword "Juban's" and search

Critical Items
5 - food – date marking - Corrected on Site

15 - food – cooling - Corrected on Site

18 - food – date marking -time - Corrected on Site

Non-Critical Items
51 - labeling - imported fish

54 - food storage – 6” off floor, dry, covered - Corrected on Site

67 - equipment construction, good repair

76 - non-food contact frequency of cleaning

106 - walls and ceilings

WVUE & WAFB are sister stations owned by the same parent company. All of these often use reports and footage from their other stations.

Went to Acme last night & one of the specials was Swai
The waitress described it as an Asian fish similar to catfish

If he by chance is using wild caught catfish that might be something someone would complain about primarily because most people now days haven't had wild caught catfish. It's few and far between the restaurants that actually serve wild caught.

All farm raised catfish now is grain fed with floating food so they are no longer bottom feeders and have the same no flavor as basa or tilapia. None.

I was in Short Stop today and they relabeled their Crawfish and Catfish poboys as imported swa and Chinese crawfish.
