Is it really that shocking that Baton Rouge fajitas would be well below Houston fajitas in terms of quality?
That superior picture is really bad. I imagine that any other place would at least cook the vegg

The tower of food at El Tiempo on Richmond is the best. Get the "for two" size if there are 3 of you and you'll be more than full and satisfied. I have never gotten the size for 1, it might be different and leave out something awesome. Sizzling carnitas, and even the onions that you scrape off the bottom... So good.
I agree, Lupe is just ok. I actually find it's way better left over, cold, the next day.

I mean, at heart, it's a rather simple dish. 270 miles shouldn't make that big a difference.

and what's with only one or two restaurants that make homemade flour tortillas? there's almost a mexican restaurant on every corner/street and only 2 restaurants can make them?
laziness, especially with the prices that are being charged.

Superior's fajitas aren't that great, especially not for $29.95.
Best thing on their menu to me are the taco truck carnitas- served on a sizzling plate with the same fajita sauce and tortillas, and they're $12-13.

They really have no reason to improve the quality of their food or charge less for it. The place is always packed with the BR socialites overpaying for food and drinks in exchange for being seen there. They will claim they are paying for the "experience" lol.

I stopped eating Superior fajitas when the strips became so thick and chewy that you pulled the entire thing out of the tortilla on the first bite

It is also half the price. La Carreta may not be the best, but its just as good as Superior for half the price (Steak Fajitas are $16.50 vs $29.50 at SG).

People acting like grilled skirt steak/flap steak with grilled onions and bell peppers with a side of tortillas is some sort of mystical creation.
Place named Mamacitas used to turn them out quite well there in the late 80s early 90s. The old Ninfas were fine, of course, as well, but I guess they mystical Houston secret to the dish.
I understand you cannot expect the same overall type of Tex-Mex in BR as in Texas, but this is about as simple as it comes and it's really not that hard to replicate something decent.

Funny how there's tons of Superior criticism-and rightfully so- with no downvotes.
But someone brings up a pretty damn good alternative in La Carreta with good food and good prices and the Superior fanbois and/or La Carreta haters come out. It's weird.
Another vote for RIP Coyote Blues. Awesome different food for terrific price.

There's a couple distinct differences that put fajitas on another level in Texas compared to Louisiana or elsewhere in the South East.
1. Tortillas - Much better quality and preparation found at all the Texas places, even the chains.
2. Sauce - Most of the places in Texas have the tangy melted butter that is really good on top.
3. Pepper - The pickled and grilled whole jalapeno. Right amount of heat to add to your fajita. Cut it into the size pieces you want to use at it comes whole. Much better than the little jarred pickled jalapeno rings.
