re: Is there a reason why some restaurants will stab the lid of take-out containers?

We order a lot of take-out pho (my wife requests it anytime it gets cold and dreary) so I get a lot of these containers and it annoys me to no end that I can't re-use them

NGL, I reuse them for all of my freezer foods that can't be vacuum sealed and I've never had an issue.

Never really paid attention to whether my place pokes a hole at the top (I don't think they do, though), but I'm still alive so there's that.

Steam ruins a good crunch fried food like chicken, fries, okra, etc... Some lids have those tabs on the four corners designed specifically for venting.

Better questions, why are you so cheap that you save and reused restaurant styrofoam containers?

I'm a big meal prepper, so I love these types of containers and always need more

I've tried putting tape over the holes, but it never holds up well in the freezer

I guess I'll either just order a bunch of lids or ask them for new lids next time and see what they say

I buy them in different sizes and keep them on hand with the ones I'm able to reuse from takeout. I always have my own supply, though.

Look at my earlier suggestion of putting plastic wrap over the top of the food under the lid.

We order them on Amazon. Plus we do reuse the ones from take out.

Yep. Also great if you give food to friends/family often and don’t want to constantly give the real stuff away. We use glass snap containers for leftovers in the fridge, and that’s too wasteful to be replacing all the time.

On a liquid it could be to lessen the hot steam coming out when it's first opened. The restaurant probably had some retard call and bitch they burned their hand when they opened the Pho when they got home.

Which do you like best? Danh's Garden, Pham's, or Pho L'amour?

I probably eat more often at Pham's these days, but I prefer the pho at Danh's. Both are good, but Danh's is what I was raised on.

We do Pham's or L'amour

We used to love Danh's but we had a pretty disgusting experience there about 2 years ago and my wife will never eat there again

I wouldn't reuse those black bottom clear top take out containers, but I'd definitely reuse those

Aren't those the staple storage container in every restaurant kitchen?

I choose not to read the health inspection reports or look around too closely. A little willful ignorance is required for me to keep going there.

This is one of the cheapest things I've ever heard. You can buy 240 of them here for $116.

Please tell me you don't spend $116 for 240 of those.

You can get a 100 for $15 on Amazon. With lids.

If restaurants were paying $116 for 240 of those, none of them would be going home with any customer.

Just go search Deli containers and the size you want. They come in 8 oz, 16 oz, and 32 oz sizes.

Know what you are buying though. Sometimes the lids have to be ordered separate. But the lids are one size fits all.

No, it’s so the steam doesn’t make fried foods soggy in transit.
