Is there a reason why some restaurants will stab the lid of take-out containers?

It let's the steam out so the top doesnt pop off in transit. Just put a piece of masking tape over it.

$0.02 to make and 500 years to disintegrate.

What a time to be alive.

Puncturing the lid to let the steam out will also keep your fried items crunchy and not soggy.

no

I'm talking about these

We order a lot of take-out pho (my wife requests it anytime it gets cold and dreary) so I get a lot of these containers and it annoys me to no end that I can't re-use them

This is one of the cheapest things I've ever heard. You can buy 240 of them here for $116. LINK

But I agree with you that for something like pho it doesn't make much sense to let the steam out. I could understand for fried foods and a lot of other things, but not pho or any other kind of soup.

I don't deny that I'm cheap (although ordering take-out as much as we do probably refutes that)

money isn't the issue, its the principle

I just throw mine in the fire. Takes about 2 seconds to disintegrate.

I've never had one of those containers with a hole in the top when a go order comes in them. Local Chinese restaurant even wraps them in plastic wrap.

ETA: Maybe you could ask them not to punch the hole in the top when you order.

You could reuse them and simply put a piece of plastic wrap over the top of the food and then put the lid on them. When I freeze soups or gumbos in them, I do that to prevent freezer burn.

well then just have them replace the top before you leave with it or give you an undamaged top.

the tops come seperate and they have hundreds of extras for the tops

My mother-in-law does this. But she’s 80 so I’ll give her a pass. And she also rinses out ziplock bags

Those are great to reuse. We order Pho a lot too and I use those to store chopped vegetables as well as to store homemade rubs and spices.

The ones we get are not punctured but I don't think that would prevent reuse for my purposes.

Same here. Also great for storing stocks and things like that around the holidays to take up less room in the fridge. Great for leftovers too.

Mrs Crickets also eats a LOT of to-go pho.
