In my experience, it's as good as ever if not better.
Why do you ask?

Went there about a year and a half ago and I was disappointed. That was just my experience, but maybe it was an off night.

Same here. Food was good but nothing to get excited about. Service was also good, but as previously stated the noise level was a bit much. One loud mouthed woman in particular was extremely annoying, the rest of the crowd was tolerable.

Last trip was around last May, and they were out of crabmeat. I understand with the temporary halt to crabbing, but inexcusable last year. How does a restaurant whose menu revolves around crabmeat run out of crabmeat?

Nope.
It's as loud as it ever was

Their are a ton of reasons why a restaurant can run out of a particular item.

It's pretty good, but I wouldn't say great.
It's all about the experience, especially the Friday lunches

Remains the best out of the OG's of NOLA restaurants.

You have to know how to do Galatoire's to get the full experience IMHO. The food is good , the service is good, but here what I do for an enjoyable time:
-Dress nice, everyone there will be dressed up. I believe they still require jackets for men.
-Try to get the name of a waiter ahead of time and see if he will be working when you go. This will let restaurant know that you have an idea of how this place works. If you don't have a waiter, ask someone who goes regularly.
-Start off with a cocktail and some souffle potatoes. This is going to be somewhat of a marathon and you don't want to rush through it, so sit back and relax.
-After that have some shrimp remoulade or the eggplant sticks, again, no hurry. Baked oyster dishes are good too.
-I think their fish dishes are some of the best things on the menu. Ask the waiter what type of fish he recommends today and just order based on his remarks. He's in the kitchen and sees what comes in nice and what doesn't.
-If you have room for dessert knock yourself out. They are all pretty good with a nice cup of coffee.
-Really try to sit downstairs if you can. It's going to be loud and a little rowdy, but that is all part of the deal.
Just my opinion

Sure, you may be able to find better food elsewhere, but not much better than a Friday lunch at Galatoire's.

It's fantastically festive!

Considering it's overrated as frick, if it went down, it should close its doors.

Galatoire's is my favorite restaurant.

Get a waiter that has been there 30 years and you'll be fine.
