I was checking out the meat counter at a grocery near Henderson La and found 2lb packages of chicken hearts and thought it might be bait. Was told by cashier they were for heart gumbo. I'd like a recipe if anybody has one. Packs of chicken liver are pretty common, but I've haven't seen hearts anywhere else.

I buy them when I grill or BBQ. My dog loves any and all organ meat. I haven't heard of heart gumbo.

It's very common to throw it all in the pot

If I have hearts and/or gizzards available, they're going in the pot

I've put many a duck or goose heart in gumbo, but I've never called a duck heart gumbo. Just a duck gumbo

My mother used to cook hearts and livers together in a little oil then water added as it dried. It made a gravy. I miss it.

I like it. I just make a regular chicken/sausage gumbo and add a container of hearts. Chicken liver is really good in gumbo as well.

Never had them in gumbo, but my high school used to fry up all the hearts, livers, and gizzards when they served fried chicken. They put them in a big bowl and you could get them if you wanted. Most people turned up their nose, but being a17-year-old bottomless pit, I found I loved hearts and livers.

I check all my pictures before posting them to see what's lurking in the background. I failed to do that years ago and my foot was in a fish pic. Now it's a thing

My old creole neighbor in New Orleans used to put freaking everything in her gumbos. She gave me some the first time, and I asked what type of gumbo it was, and she said "honey, it's best you don't know." It definitely had hearts in it, plus Lord knows what else. I'll try any food once, so I had some. Eh, not my favorite.

The only chicken heart I've ever liked was yakitori-style. Heart has always been a little too chewy for my tastes.

Gizzards go great in a gumbo.
