Impossible Meat - Tried it for the first time tonight

I've seen it at the store and it has piqued my interest several times, but the price has scared me away. It's $7.99 for 12 oz, which isn't the cheapest thing in the world, especially when ground chuck is sitting directly next to it for $4-5/lb.
It caught my attention again the other day and I said, "screw it," and tried it. When forming the patties, it felt chunkier and harder than real meat, but otherwise it formed a patty really easily. Simple salt and pepper on the patty and simple toppings of caramelized shallot, cheese, and M&K. Home fries as the side.
Overall, not bad. Not great either, but better than I expected. Maybe a 3 out of 5, if I had to score it. It smelled a little weird when it was cooking, but it tasted very similar to a real burger. A little chewier in texture, but if you hadn't said anything to me it may have fooled me. I wish I'd have checked the nutrition facts and seen it had a good bit of salt in it already, because I definitely added my normal amount for burgers and it was too salty. I'd consider buying it again if it were a couple bucks cheaper, but until then I'll stick with the real stuff.
Y'all tried to cook with it yet?

But why? Why would you want to?

The same reason I've tried any new food: curiosity.

I could understand switching to it when possible if it was better for you. The problem is that it isn’t. As a vegetarian substitute it makes perfect sense.

It doesn't look bad, but if the real stuff is cheaper I have no reason to ever buy it

That was my take-away. I think even if it were the same price, I'd still go meat more times than not. I think the product has its place, but it just needs to work on price.

The burger looks good. I'm interested in trying this as well, haven't seen it in the stores yet.

Yup. My wife decided to transition to vegetarian/pescatarian about 4-5 years ago. She likes animals. I figured what the hell. My only stipulation was that I never go hungry from some froo froo shite. So far, she's held up her end of the deal.
Impossible meat is pretty good considering. I like it better than the beyond meat as they seem to be trying less with the overly added flavoring. Now the beyond sausage is pretty damn good. Both the regular and spicy Italian have some pretty good flavoring.

Why did you transition too?

Because I'd rather not cook. I still order hamburgers, steaks, pork chops, etc.. when we go out to eat.

I've had the Impossible Whopper and thought it was good. I probably won't ever buy the product to have it at home, although I'd considered the Beyond product when I saw it at Costco. Figured it would sit in my freezer like the black bean burgers I bought, which I liked, but not enough to reach for it again.
