I'm not an old person and I'm not stupid. The OP asked for opinions and he got a variety of them probably as he expected. If I walked in the place and saw the mural, I would have the thoughts I've expressed, but I wouldn't mention it unless asked. I would have tried to sit where it wasn't in my face, though.

I just wonder how many people would turn around and walk out upon seeing it, or see it on social media and refuse to eat there because of it. I would imagine those numbers being very low, especially if the place earns a reputation for good food. People like to bitch, but one thing I've learned is they can overlook a lot of things for good food.

I'd probably leave it up a few weeks while keeping a close eye on my daily numbers. If it seems to be impacting sales, change it. If it doesn't, let it ride.

I have expressed a negative opinion about the particular image, but I wouldn’t walk out. If it rotates, and I knew it, I wouldn’t blink an eye. If it was a staple, my family probably wouldn’t return because of, what we view, is an unappealing image.

Case in point - Nick Huff started doin burgers w Barcadia several years ago before he had a brick and mortar... I absolutely loved his burgers and was SO fired up when they opened one m BR by LSU. Family went one day for burgers and there were images of scantily clad women on the wall. My wife told me I could come back for a burger on my own, she wasn’t coming back, nor were the kids. Granted, they weren’t nude, per se, but close enough that she thought them distasteful. I’m not comparing the poor table manner picture to an image of a naked woman, but they both could have the same effect.

I want to have this fellas burgers, hope he uses the criticism to his advantage, develops a rotating mural wall that can be shared/discussed and kills it because of it.

I like it, think its funny.

I also think the idea of rotating art work is a cool concept and you should consider doing if feasible.

I'm glad you posted this. Had no idea you were there. Brother is coming into town this weekend and hes a burger guy. We will have to drop in.

I get that, and can respect it.

And agree that a rotation would be a great option to pursue, maybe even engaging the public on ideas, or even showcasing some local artists' work.

The rotating art is a great idea it’s something one of the customers suggested yesterday. Seeing as the artist is a friend of mine and I’m helping him get his new business started (Downtown Mural) it’s Feesable. May be as the seasons change we change the piece.

My alternative option if i choose to paint over Harry and Lloyd only once is to incorporate well known Saints Fan characters - Whistlemonsta, Da Pope, Mack the Clown, and because it’s my restaurant Myself (Cyborgsaint). I would have everyone painted huge on the wall eating burgers fries etc. that will connect the dots that were local, part of the community, and help people make the connection that the same idiot they see at saints games owns and operates this burger spot. My rational behind doing superfans is everyone has murals of former players and those get boring and outdated quick. Whistlemonsta Pope Mack have been around almost 30 years they are recognizable and personal friends. Seeing is all i do is Burgers and Saints it makes sense to tie them together to create a fun atmosphere.

But then all these old tender folks won't eat there because of all the scary creatures on the wall

Wow! Sounds like you have a very affordable idea and a great one. Might also be fun to have the "characters" appear for an "autograhing" of the mural and/or a "pep rally" before the season starts or periodically. There's a good bit you could come up with to incorporate that theme.

This is a really good idea.

Re: your friend the artist.... it could be good for u both. Even if it’s more often than seasonal. Dunno his limitations or time, but ur on to something. Good luck.

If/when you do the rotating murals can you bump this thread? Regardless of the opinion of the subject matter, it was still well painted and I appreciate a business owner that cares about their customer’s opinions. Will try and make it down to see ya soon.

I was gonna order some food tonight but this mural offended me and I went to burger king instead.

J/k. Had to hit up Ben's in my brief visit home to Bridgedale

I wouldn’t change it for a few months and see if your numbers change negatively in a drastic way. (Of course consider it is the summer months if they are slower for you normally)
People are always willing to say we are never coming back, but in a business situation it’s about the numbers. The negative will always stand out more. My personal opinion is I think people are going to start sharing this image on social media and it will be good for your business especially if your name appears on the mural.

That was a gentle way of getting you to change it.
