Initially, I thought this was a troll thread when I saw the mural. It’s bad. It’s nauseating. Your burgers would have to be darn good for me to look at that while I ate. Like out of this world.

Why do you need a mural?

The point of this one is really to be a talking piece. My goal was to have something people took pictures of and share online and in turn would spread the word about us. It’s been shared around over the last week (painted last Monday and Tuesday) but feedback from customers inside the place have been hit and miss.

I think in order to compromise, you should build one of those safe space crying boxes for the pussies that get this offended over a mural

My first reaction was fully negative when I clicked the link. I don't think it would take anything away but if that was the first thing I saw walking in without knowing anything else about your place, it doesn't start off well.

Ultimately, it's about the food not the decorations. So if the burger is great, don't worry too much about it.

I like it. Can you legally use it though? This isn't some kind of copyright infringement?

I agree w Gris. Lots of people here may “not want to dine w us” or think “we have bigger issues than a mural” but that’s gross. Opinion isn’t just mine, my family wouldn’t want to look at that while eating.

There are many ways to get the word spread the word and get people talking about the restaurant outside of having a childish Dumb & Dumber scene painted on the wall.

As far as “a beta move” - it’s your business man. If something as simple as a painting can turn away customers, why do it? One thing if you did this for fun, but I assume it’s how you feed your family. No pun intended.

You asked for feedback, and you got it. Just not my thing.

I think it is pretty funny. Your place is a 24/7 burger stop. I would think people going in there aren't expecting the Mona Lisa but I guess some in here would turn and walk right out the door if they see this.

Unfortunately he came here where some don't have to worry about P/L and balance sheets.

I love that movie so I think its enjoyable.

maybe your thing could be that you paint a new mural on the wall every couple months. I'd go out of my way to eat your burger and check out what new art you have chosen, but that's just me.

this can be a brilliant angle if done right.

Agree on the rotating paint jobs... there is a place n Alabama that made themselves pretty famous for it... they do a ton of satirical Nick Saban stuff. Pretty funny.

Agree.
I'm not offended. It's just not appealing in the least.

I'd go there if the burger is good, but I'd look at that thing and shake my head "why?"

edit: rotating artwork would be awesome if you can afford it. Even people that don't like something would at least be intrigued.

Druid City Brewing in Tuscaloosa. You can Google Image search them and see all the murals they've done over the years. They do it on a chalk board behind the bar. I watched the artist doing one while in there one day, and it was pretty amazing to watch.

^^this. Sure, you're trying to create buzz. But if you're putting people off their food, you are undoing whatever buzz you might create. It's a fairly obscure movie reference at this point, 24 years later, and definitely not popular enough to be widely understood. For people ignorant of the movie reference, it may come across as gross. Is gross the feeling you want to engender in any customer?

Yes, it's your shop. Do what you want. But it's not the sort of neighborhood (Metry) or product (what is more mainstream than a burger) that lends itself to a customer seeking alienation.

(Squirting, dripping liquids = not really a food reference anyway, is it?)

We're not talking about the whole family getting dressed up and taking them to a fancy meal at red lobster.

That’s it! They have some pretty funny stuff, that’s not offensive.

I also understand that particular picture doesn’t offend everyone, just like poor table manners don’t offend everyone.... but they do bother some.

To each it’s own, but you are definately alienating some... when you do t have to do so - to be funny or create a “buzz.”

It shouldn't offend anyone. Its Harry and Lloyd, wtf is there to be offended about? People are too sensitive about things that don't matter.

Druid City Brewing sounds fun. The photo in the OP isn't "fun" to me. As others have said, it's not that it's offensive, it's just gross. My first thought was "yuck" and it made me picture someone throwing up.

The cow makes me think of Chic Fil a.

I don't see how it's offensive, though I do see why some might find it off-putting. I'd guess for most of those, if the food is otherwise good, they could look past it. I mean in one of the pics the dining tables are picnic tables. Doesn't look like he's going for white table cloth, formal dining here.

Without going through the whole thread, did anyone here say it was offensive?

Couple of internet tough guys implied that people thought that, but I don't recall anyone here saying it.
