Cocktail sauce is made with ketchup and that shite fricks hard. Also a good condiment for a shrimp poboy.

This.

And mayo will not come near my fried shrimp.

I love cocktail sauce with a seafood platter but for some reason do not like it on a poboy

I don’t think it’s crazy or gross that people add ketchup to their poboy. I just think it sucks when a place does it in their standard dressing because that’s not the standard dressing in 99% of places. I would have never thought to even look at what came on it, since there is the widely accepted standard across LA.

Standard ... at most places i've seen is

Lettuce
Mayo
Tomato
Pickle.

My preference is

Lettuce
Tarter
Pickles

and a few dashes of tabasco to make it right.

That's my vote. Can't beat a simple, good fried shrimp (or oyster) po-boy dressed like that.

Dressed is

Lettuce, Mayo, Tomato, pickles

But I would say a lot of people add Ketchup and hot sauce.

Honestly surprised at all the ketchup replies in this thread. I'm not sure I've seen ketchup on shrimp po-boys at the few places around Birmingham that serve them, and can't recall ever seeing it on them when I've visited Louisiana. I have seen people add it at the table though.

Standard - mayo, lettuce, tomato and pickle depending on where you get it from.

Custom - mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickle, little ketchup, Crystal or Louisiana Hot Sauce.

Old New Oyenz - Ole Uptowners gonna tell you just butter and lemon. Tell them to get F'd.

so, if you are just eating fried shrimp, do you dip them in anything? or just eat them as they are?

I occasionally put a little tartar sauce on them with the ingredients you mentioned. Also keep tartar sauce for dipping the stragglers that fall off the sandwich!

It's rare I eat fried shrimp, but when I do I don't dip them in anything.

Ketchup and fried food is a match made in heaven.

But it is a table add. Usually only on fried seafood po boys.

It’s not traditionally part of what’s considered “dressed”

I'm not really shaming the use of ketchup on them. It just surprised me on a board of mostly Louisiana residents. I would have assumed it was sacrilegious.

Mayo and shredded lettuce. I don't mind a tomato or two either if they're sliced thin.

Agree...ketchup is a table add but I put some on the plate and will dip every other bite or so in the ketchup. Don't ever want it ON the poboy.
