Yea, who knows what the future will bring? Younger generations may gravitate towards other styles. And certain styles may become more attractive as different innovations in technology and agriculture occur.
I could be wrong, but I just don't see IPAs losing much momentum any time soon. The market may eventually become saturated with them, but I think we are still a long way away from that. In Louisiana, a lot of us are still pining for that local, fresh, exceptional year-round IPA to become available. I still go to countless restaurants and bars that don't offer a single IPA, let alone a good one.
I hear people refer to it as a fad, which to me implies some sort of temporary trend fueled by conformance that will soon be over, and I just don't see it.

The guys at Covington Brewhouse do a fantastic job IMO.
You can see why I don't like IPAs. Not of those beers pictured above are very hoppie.

Definitely not a fad.
Hope the hop fields can keep up.
IPAs are like pizza. There are a few big mediocre brands and lots of local exceptional examples and regional takes on them but damn near everyone likes them.

I wouldn't drain pour them or anything, but there is a lot of room for improvement IMO.

Yeah I don't think it's going anywhere soon. Especially here in LA where we are far behind the curve in everything. The "fellow Mavens" still got plenty beers to drink.

Was reading an article earlier today about genetic predisposition to disliking hops. Blame your genes for not letting you enjoy great beer.

The word fad itself displays a negative connotation. IPA is hardly a fad. It'll be around for decades.

But does that make them a fad?
Not to mention, some people (including some IPA lovers) just flat-out don't care for sours, so I'm not sure there will ever be widespread appeal. It's a real niche market.
