Do you like great pizza and beer? In Pigeon Forge:
West By God CoalFired Pizza
Combo pizza restaurant and axe-throwing place. Has an 8.7 on the OneBite app with 100 reviews. That’s an elite pizza score if you’re not familiar with the ratings.
Plenty of great beers on tap.

Gatlinburg is great if you understand what it actually is - a tourist town that caters to families. Families dont normally want to eat out all the time so they rent cabins with full kitchens and cook most meals there. When they do go eat they aren’t looking for amazing culinary experiences. They are going somewhere that’s above fast food, but with food their kids will eat without complaint. Hence pancake places.

Gatlinburg has been one of the top destination wedding places for a long dang time. It's more than just a family destination. It's also been the home base for exploring the #1 national park in America. This is not a good enough excuse for why they don't get decent restaurants. The real problem is it's really trashy as f**k. So they get trashy chains.

If you have kids, Dixie Stampede, that will keep them entertained. Food is really not that bad. Get there early, walk around.

The guide book I read said the Old Mill is also good but I didn’t make it there.

It's Cracker Barrel with a longer line. You didn't miss that much.

Went 5 years ago and this was the case at Paula Dean's. Same as you...no thanks. Went to Jimmy Buffet's and had burgers and beers with zero wait.

I've been to Gatlinburg 4 or 5 times and Paula Deen's was probably the worst meal of any of the trips. The best thing was the free cinnamon roll they give you.

If we were to go to one of the dinner and a show places in PF which would you suggest ?

The Dolly Parton one, Hatfield McCoy , or the pirate one?

Stampede is the only one worth the money in my opinion.

Do manage your expectations.
Don't go to Gatlinburg expecting amazing food.
Have fun. It's touristy and crowded, but the area is beautiful once you get past the putt-putts and taffy stores.

We are regular visitors. We like to hike the GSMNP. A few places we have enjoyed:

Dancing Bear in Townsend. Nice, quiet atmosphere away from the Parkway of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.

Dancing Bear

The white chocolate donut bread pudding was as good a dessert as we’ve had.

The Greenbrier is pretty good. They pride themselves on their drinks.

We enjoyed a seafood meal at Chesapeake’s on the Parkway in Gatlinburg. We usually avoid seafood at most places there, but the oysters and ceviche were delicious. The crab cake on the broiled platter was pure crab and outstanding.

We have had several very good meals at the Biltmore if you make a trip there.

We eat breakfast at least once each trip at Pancake Pantry. It’s nothing fancy but we’ve had good memories there with our family through the years.

Get a fried bologna breakfast at Crockett’s or a sausage sandwich with onions and peppers from Fannie Farkle on the strip.

Where do yall stay?

Looking at going next year for Easter, want to take the MIL who has never been. We would prefer a cabin, we have stayed off Wears Valley Rd in the past. But since you seem to be a regular just curious if you know of a honey hole area to stay in?

The best meal we had was the Local Goat, they use fresh locally sourced ingredients for the most part. Worst meal was at Smoky Mountain Brewery. Crocketts breakfast camp was also very good.

I thought that they closed after the new year?

Pass on Paula Deens unless you want a bland Thanksgiving style dinner.

Dang. She's got alot of people fooled then. I wanted to try the fried chicken. I heard it was pretty good. But I ain't waiting two hours for anybody's fried chicken.

We mostly cooked at the cabin anyway. Btw, bears love boiled crawfish heads.

Loco Burro in Downtown Gatlinburg is a solid choice for decent Tex Mex. Greenbriar is also good. Stay away from any of the "Dinner Theatre" places. They are terrible.

Wife (no pics) and I went last week for the first time. Take this for what it's worth. She asked about where to eat on the Foodies of Nashville FB page.

We only ate lunch at these places so that ruled some of the restaurants out since they are only open at night.

Pancake Pantry - waited 25 minutes on Sunday. Very overrated. Tasted like Golden Corral breakfast.

On the suggestion of a local employee, we tried Flapjacks Pancake Cabin in Pigeon Forge. Excellent! Probably the best cathead biscuit I've ever had. Sticky Bun pancakes were great. Townsend skillet was very good.

Applewood Farmhouse Grill - don't waste your time or money. Room temperature dry fried chicken. Sides were hot but not much flavor.

Calhoun's in Gatlinburg - worst 1/2 rack of ribs I've ever eaten. Tasted like they were roasted for 24 hours and covered with a thick barbecue sauce. Wife got the roasted 1/2 chicken. Looked like it was basted with mustard or something very yellow then baked. Nasty. Do. Not. Go.

To end on a positive note like a previous posted said, The Local Goat in Pigeon Forge was EXCELLENT. Wife got the Smokehouse burger and said it was delicious. I got the 1/2 rack of ribs with sauteed spinach and baked potato. The ribs were fork tender. The chocolate peanut butter pie was sinful. Place gets packed so get there at 11:00.

We just moved to Nashville 2 months ago from Lafayette so I know food.
Good luck Baw!

Gatlinburg Do's: Pancake Pantry, No Way Jose's, Peddler's Steakhouse, Crystelle Creek Restaurant, Greenbrier and Alamo (supposed to be good).

Went to Jason Aldean's and was not impressed.

Pigeon Forge Do's: Mellow Mushroom on the Parkway, Blue Moose, Old Mill was decent, Mel's Classic Diner, Paw Paw's Catfish Kitchen and West By God Pizza.

Not impressed but won't say stay away: Local Goat, Calhoun's, Paula Deen's or Guy Fieri's Flavortown except for the Trash Can Nacho's.
