Leaving next week for a trip with the wife and kids (11&9) . Doing 4 nights in New braunfels and 2 in San Antonio on the riverwalk. Gristmill is one place we know we like in new braunfels and will prob go there one night. Anyone know of some other must try eating places over that way? We like all different kinds of food. All recs would be appreciated. Not looking for anything super dressy or fancy .. thanks in advance.

La Panaderia near the Alamo is a good option for breakfast

Gruene River Grill is way better than the Gristmill.
Also, Floathouse is right on the river and has amazing burgers.

Skip the tourist traps along the Riverwalk in S.A. & head out to the Pearl District. Two of my favorite restaurants were Cured & Southerleigh Fine Food and Brewery.
Cured is a charcuterie focused restaurant with other options for people who preferred cooked foods. Great craft cocktails & beer.
Southerleigh has a southern-coastal inspired menu. Make sure somebody orders the Fried Snapper Throats.
If you're restricted to the Riverwalk area, try Zinc Bistro & Wine Bar. Good happy hour menu & drink specials in a laid back atmosphere. The food comes out of Boudro's kitchen which has a good reputation. Dine outside if the weather permits.
All of these places are fairly casual and have kid friendly options. Make a RSVP to ensure a table.

Naegelins Bakery, Pat’s Place, and Krauze’s Biergarten. All in New Braunfels.
We dont go to Gristmill anymore after watching one of their Austin style waiter put his poneytailed hair into the tray of food he was delivering. It’s a great setting, but the food is just ok even without the hair.

I have been here several times. It's the best Neapolitan pizza in the US.
You will be glad you went.
