Surprised nobody had mentioned regular old "cracklins" at prices between $20 and up a lb. in some places.

Last time my wife got some at Chris' Meats on Pontchartrain Blvd. and Harrison it was something like $30 a lb.

Yeah cracklins are a good example. I will pay whatever, but the ones from Chris' are horrible.

As mentioned, pistachos seem high to me.
I will pay for good beef jerky.

I'm not getting the crazy wagyu or whatever, but I do buy good steak to grill. Prime and sometimes dry aged.

Cheese and authentic balsamic vinegars come to mind. Wild caught smoked salmon can get pricey too

I get my salt from Japan that’s pretty expensive. I can’t read the box so I can’t tell you the brand but I’ve heard it’s one of the best in the world

I cringe every time I buy beef from Snake River Farms yet I keep ordering more. I’m a sucker for fresh Chilean Sea Bass and fresh Alaskan King Crab. Throw in fresh Alaskan salmon such as King Salmon to the list. Every time I travel to Maryland I order crab cakes and they aren’t scared to charge you for them. Another one I really like to cook at home that can get pricey if not caught on sale is rack of lamb. Those are ones off the top of my head.

You’re paying for the cost to get it shipped fresh from Louisiana to there.

Whiskey. I've paid fricking ridiculous prices for rare distills.

I know right. Ridiculous. I justify it by telling myself its like a tourist going to Louisiana and not eating gumbo. I will say they don’t skimp on the crab meat though in their cakes and they charge you handsomely for our crab.

I used to do the same but then discovered the farmer's market and well, that was the end of expensive supermarket eggs.

Same great pasture quality at like half the price.

I think I might start doing this. I'm trying to get away from conventional beef but it's so damn good and tender.

I tried to commit to Iverstine Farms with their beef, but I just don't care for it. I find it runs too lean and even with sous vide, it's not tender enough.

Give Snake River Farms a try. It’s consistently the best I’ve been able to buy.
