Le Creuset is top of the line but $$$. If you can catch a sale or an outlet store you'll save money. I have 3 Cajun Classics as well and love them at half the price.

Also Team Staub.

Cutlery and More has decent sales--sign up for their newsletter.

You can also get 20% off your first purchase via Staub's website, but be warned--their prices are higher than giraffe P.

Was just reading about this yesterday. Supposedly, most all of them do the job fine. Where you get into difference in quality is longevity in regards to the enamel coating. Some cheaper brands will chip. Also in weight. Le Creuset is lighter weight than the cheaper brands.

America’s Test Kitchen puts LC at the top, but their value recommendation is Cuisineart.

I have two Martha Stewart ones that I got at a deep discount during a Macy’s sale. They are the same shape as Staub and I’ve had no chipping issues.

I've got a collection of Le Creuset built up over years. I prefer it to Staub bc I don't like the dark interior of the Staub: it's too easy to scorch or over brown something with black interior. Light color helps me to judge how the fond is developing on the bottom of the pot.

That said, the Lodge version works just fine. I started collecting LC long before Lodge made enameled cast iron.

I've got a Le Creuset that is nice. But I bought a Sam's Club brand one a few years ago that has held up quite well. So much so I bought another one for my camp this year. They are half the price of the LC, at least. Can't remember the brand name..

eta- It's Tramontina

I've had a Lodge enameled dutch oven for several years and it has been great. I can't comment on any other brands as it was my first, but no complaints here.

LC but there is rarely any reason to pay anything close to full price for LC unless you're just hunting for something particular and are very precise about color.

Just go out and get one of the Lodge ones for about 50 bucks.

LC has outlet stores at many outlet malls. I bought a 13 QT in TN for 50% off. They are $560 regular price. Buy once cry once. I have had it for 8 years and almost looks like the day I bought it.

I was thinking that this may be a drawback of the Staub, but I don't have this issue with my standard non-enameled cast iron, so why would I have this issue with a black interior Staub? Not being argumentative, just curious why that would be the case.

I’ve had a lodge for over 6 years. No chipping at all, some discoloration inside from all the dishes that have been made. It works well, but I’ve never tried the more expensive brands to compare.

I'm a Le Creuset guy all the way. If it's within your budget, I definitely recommend it. Many will say it's over priced and you're paying for the brand name and not the product, but I disagree. I think it's a superior product to other, cheaper brands. Online review and videos usually agree too - more durable, more even heat distribution, better at maintaining temperature, ease of cleaning, etc.

The expensive brands are great because of the finish. It's superior because it holds up better to abuse. If you drop a Lodge brand enameled dutch oven, it's more likely to chip. Outside of that, that's the biggest difference I have found. If you take care of your cookware, a Lodge enameled dutch oven will work just fine. That'll leave you with more money for whiskey to drink while using it.

Cook’s Illustrated did a comparison a few years ago. They rated Le Creuset #1 (for the umpteenth time in a row), and Cuisinart their “Best Buy.”

LINK

I bought my Le Creuset 7 1/4 qt on sale, at the LeCreuset outlet store in Hilton Head, for $202.....they typically retail for around $385. I felt like I stole it from them. It’s a fantastic pot.

Amazon Basics. I honestly cannot tell any difference from the expensive brands. This is one thing they did well.

I have both LC and Staub. I enjoy cooking in both. I tend to use the LC on the stovetop and Staub in the oven. Both can do either, but the Staub has a special lid that helps retain moisture. The LC is the lightest out of all of them.

I had a Cajun Cooker for 10 years, and it was a great pot, but the enamel started to deteriorate. It was also a super heavy SOB.

Buy once, cry once. That’s been my motto on things and seems to work out, especially in the kitchen.
