And with spaghetti too. I grew up with either my mom or grandparents always having corn as a side with it. Where did this tradition come from?
Now that I’m older, If I cook either of the two we just have salads and garlic bread as sides. I find no use for corn.
I just find it funny because my wife says it was the same way when she was growing up.
I do love corn but have no idea why people feel the need to serve it with lasagna

Cuz when you have a mushy entre you need some crunch to compliment it. Listen to your elders.

They just felt like they needed a vegetable side dish and a can of corn was cheap.

We had the same. The square pizza was my favorite school lunch. It wasn't hard to have a favorite, though.

i'm sure corn in lasagna is great.
rarely ever eat lasagna, but growing up i always put corn in my hamburger helper.
and i have my kids mixing corn into their rice and gravy from a roast, which is something i always did growing up.
And if i don't have corn as a side with my mashed potatoes for my hamburger steak, i almost don't want to eat it.

School lunch square (rectangular?) sausage pizzas, with those little rabbit turd pieces of sausage were my favorite school lunch. I wish I could remember what grade I was in when the first bean serving them. Maybe late Jr. High.

I am sure we had corn with our pizza, because they fed us corn two or three times a week, and then (Maybe Thursday/) we had school lunch soup, which included every vegetable left over from that week's menu, with canned tomato chunks and left over spaghetti with tomato meat sauce. School lunch soup day was an unpopular part of the educational process as far back as my memory goes.

I would buy a few cases of school lunch square pizzas today if I could find them. I don't think anyone makes them any more.

edit: I went back to read the other responses and found another thing Gris and I agree on.

In Copenhagen, they put corn on the pizza as a topping.

You can add corn to a lot of things. It adds crunch and a little sweetness. I put it in chili sometimes.

Those school lunch pizzas were good. The recipes were from the USDA and the crust was their "pourable crust." MD posted some links in the tilt skillet thread earlier this week. The meat sauce was a little sweet and the cheese was the commodity gubment (American) cheese slices. This site has a link to the 1988 recipes. The same link has some great conversion charts.
