I’m having a few folks over today to watch football. I’m making jambalaya for these Californians.

I’ve seen a few social media posts today about adding black eyed peas to jambalaya on New Years Day.

That sounds like sacrilege to me, but maybe I r just been out here too long.

Wondering what ya’ll on the Food and Drink Board think.

No tomatoes in mine by the way

Never seen it. I’d be afraid it would mess up my jambalaya.

Look for recipes of Hop-N-John, similar to black eyed pea jambalaya, but without chicken, just pork for the protein.

I wouldn’t do it. Too easy to sauté a diced onion in chopped bacon and toss the Black eyes in the pot with that. Anyone can add that to the jambalaya if they would like.

Had some jambalaya with black eyed peas at the frog festival in Rayne a few years ago.
First time I had ever seen that. Wasn’t bad, but not something I would do. JMO

It’s a way to eat black eyed peas on New Years. That’s all it is.

I would serve the peas on the side.

I wouldn't add them to the cook, but I'd definitely cook black eyed peas as a side dish and then mix the two while I was eating (as I do with jambalaya and white beans).

There’s no way it wouldn’t be good, imo.

Bergeron’s sold cabbage jambalaya to cover that part of the traditional New Years menu. It was okay, but there needed to more cabbage chopped smaller. It was rather standard jambalaya with random huge pieces of cabbage.

Make it on the side and serve it like you would white beans.

I saw an ole baw on my FB feed that I know make black eyed peas in the style that you’d make red beans. With sausage served over rice. I’ve never seen them prepared that way, but I’m gonna give it a shot in the.l next week or so. All that said, put those peas in that jamb. Give it a shot.

Well, I made Black Eye Pea Jambalaya yesterday and have been doing it for four years now. I love it as well as others that have eaten it here.

Here it is.......

Also cooked a couple of heads of cabbage and a root beer glazed ham.
