I am in Calandro's and Matherne's regularly (trying to fill up 2 teenage boys), and they have both had it pretty much 100% of the time since it came out in cans.
readily available in Jackson now too.

I think their best beer is probably the Clementine 1.5, but I've enjoyed everything but their standard IPAs... you can find better IPAs around. The various stouts and the Hoppy Feet 1.5 are all good brews.
Have you tried the Porcine Unidragon or Vampire Slayer yet? Both of those are phenomenal imperial stouts.

That's a pretty spot on list. 2013 should be a great year in LA craft brewing. Should be interesting how /if Abita reacts at all

I liked Grand Reserve, but I don't think it's the best in LA in 2012. I'd have Mechahopzilla ahead of it. I'd also have Hopitoulas somewhere on that list. The Abita Biere de Garde was surprisingly delicious. I missed out on Throw Me Something Mista and Joie à Tous.

They'll react by producing more thin beer with no malt character. They've got a stranglehold on that style.

Would really be nice if they could sell directly to the consumer without restrictions. Parish Brewing has expressed interest in opening up their own tap room.
NOLA tap room should be open 7 days a week (besides tours) to the public sometime in the new year.

The more I have it, the more I find myself wanting of more up front hop aroma and flavor and less back end bitterness. It's still one of the better beers in the state, but I don't think it's their best beer. Irish Channel Stout is a better beer.

Completely agree. I've gotten that way with a lot of IPAs and DIPAs here recently.

Was there last night. The problem is they are waiting on the city. City told them they sre not even thinkning about issuing new permits til after the Super Bowl & MG. Gonna be awesome once it happens.

Me too. I've come to appreciate more flavor/aroma and less bitterness in my IPA's of late as well.

Yeah, City is always the hold up. Was at ABO office yesterday for another issue, nothing is getting done til after the Super Bowl. I think it is their own self-fulfilling prophecy.
That tap room is pretty bad arse, little loud but will be a great place to hang out.

It is loud, but I think once they get some things on the walls, fill that private room and merchandise area it might soften up a bit.

That's why I like hopslam/Double Jack/Heady/Pliny etc.
They've all got that lighter color to them and more aroma than bitterness.
I didn't enjoy Hoptimum or this one all that much because of the bitterness.

Yep. That La Cumbre Elevated IPA, Bear Republic Racer X and Surly Abrasive DIPA have that great aroma as soon as you open and pour it. That's missing from Mechahopzilla, Hoptimum, etc.

I have had all of those except the Abita 18th star Biere de Garde. Mechahopzilla was a little strong for my liking

Where can i get some grand reserve?
Posted on 12/18/12 at 10:05 am to LSUBoo
can you get canebrake in New Orleans yet?
Posted on 12/18/12 at 10:13 am to baytiger
Abita Oyster Stout and Heiner Brau Festbier should have been considered for the list, IMHO
