re: Billys Boudin versus Don’s, seasoned Cracklings and regular Boudin

I haven’t had Poches cracklins in years. Was/am always in the vicinity of the others. Had a plate lunch from them and honestly thought they’d used way too much pepper. I’m all for spice, but I prefer it subtle. I like to taste all the other ingredients, not just pepper.
Folks I was with concurred. It was a pork roast, rice and gravy lunch. Not like we ordered boiled seafood or anything.

Floyd was the king about 25 years ago, no one had better boudin. When they began commercial production it wasn't nearly as good. Same for their rice dressing mix. The plate lunches are still great.

Think Johnson’s Boucaniere and Kartchner’s are still my two favorite links. Haven’t tried T-Boy’s yet.

I actually have come to prefer Kartchners over Billys
Also when in the area I like Bourque’s in Port Barre for boudin

While it’s good for their business, I’m selfishly hoping they don’t become the new Billy’s in terms of the long arse line of people and cars at that Scott location. It’s been nice being to walk right on in and check out almost immediately.

Billy's is better all around I'd say, though Don's boudin tator tots are pretty damn good. Not sure anything beats Billy's pepperjack wraps & balls though.

Kartchner's boudin/wraps/balls/crack/chick crack are all good and tastey, but I don't know that I'd declare any of them to be the best. I didn't know they had maple wraps that somebody mentioned earlier so I'll definitely have to try that.

I live in Prairieville so for the Baton Rouge area:
Bergeron's boudin sucks!!! Like horrible. Their cracklings are good, chicken cracklings okay

Hebert's boudin is serviceable. Their cracklings are horrible, but their chicken cracklings are excellent

Jerry Lee's boudin while not great, would probably get the nod over Hebert's and definitely over Bergerons

I'm from Eunice, so for that area there a few good choices:
Mr.Tee's in Elton on 190 has arguably the best boudin on the market.Lots of meat.

Mel's in Mamou had good flavor, but mushy

Eunice Poultry is okay

Eunice Superette is good, but greasy and just has that good ole heartburn flavor lol

T-boy's is pretty good too from what I remember, but it's been a while

I agree about Mr. T’s — it’s my current favorite.

What about Charlie’s in Mamou? I’m passing through on Tuesday and was going to get some from there as well as T-Boys. Went to Mel’s last time I was in the area and didn’t care for it.
