From BR - go over the Ms River on I-10, exit Lobdell Hwy 415 North. Then take hwy 190 West like your going to Opelousas. When you get to Krotz Springs, buy boudin and Cajun meats at Kartchners Grocery ... foot of the Atchafalaya River bridge on left. OBEY THE SPEED LIMIT. Then go across the street and buy boudin and chicken cracklins at Billy’s. Continue on 190W and when you get to Port Barre, go to Bourques (1 mile down on left) and buy boudin and jalapeño sausage cheese bread,

When you get to opelousas go to the original rays on hwy 182 and get some boudin. Skip the balls there they aren’t great.

Btw hard to believe someone hadn’t thrown up a boudin place at the lobdell exit. A Billy’s there would kill it.

Bergeron’s has a location on 415 as they stay very busy. Owner has franchised 5 other locations around the State and is growing a solid business for a specialty food item that is in demand

I got some deer processed there for the first time and had them make me some 50/50 smoked jalapeno sausage. Don't think I can go back to Benoit's after having it.

No problem brother, just trying to help you out with logistics and to make your trip simpler. I-10 exit 97 Scott has more boudin to choose from; however the wait times and lines can be insanely long. Also, taking 190 will save you from the cluster Fk of traffic should there be a wreck on the Basin Bridge which occurs daily.

Since you're buying in bulk (80 lbs) buy the frozen 5 lbs. boxes. The boudin is vacuum sealed and can be thawed and heated later. The frozen boxed boudin will also transport and store easier.

You should be fine with boudin from Billy's, Kartchners, and Bourques (190 route). Buy several links of hot boudin (regular and smoked) for your ride home. Other items I would definitely recommend as pointed out in previous posts: Billy's pepper jack boudin balls, Kartchner's sour cream jalapeno stuffed boudin balls, chicken cracklins, boudin egg rolls are always great. A small scoop of cracklins from each store would also be good to compare when driving home. Bourque's is famous for their jalapeno sausage cheese bread.

I've eaten the cracklins from every place that has been mentioned and the cracklins I prefer are from a place that hasn't been mentioned - Charlie T"s in Breaux Bridge - I get them in the 1 gallon plastic containers

I'm not a big fan of boudin, but I like the smoked boudin from Kartchner's

best hog head cheese i've ever had.

Also I'd throw Day's in Watson as the best boudin in BR area

Ronnies is prob best in BR area, imo.

I’ve heard good things about Benoit’s Country Meat Block in Addis but I’ve never been.

Whoever has the shorter line is the better one to get.

I posted this a while back but for those of you who want Billys and dont want to wait in the insane lines at the Scott location there is another location on I-45 one exit North of I-10 in the Exxon K&G on the Geaux. Thats where we stock up on the way home to Houston and have never had to wait. Walk in and walk out and they have a drive through.

FIFY
but we all knew what interstate you meant. It's the Pont des Mouton Rd. exit - 1C . Same exit as the BWW and State Police Troop I.
