There was Dajonel's on Florida, it was in an old Pizza Hut Bldg., it was a nice place with good food. Not sure why they closed.

Koi was Omi before Omi existed.
Koi was great. Wahada is very similar (the old Arzi's location in the old Brewbachers shopping center on Nicholson where A&M Mart is) and i think i heard it is owned by the same family

We have been wondering how Wahada is doing these days. Such nice people.
It is completely dead every time we pass.

my daughter has been getting into sushi so we go sometimes and it is always dead. it isnt bad for the price. i think they do a lot of take out/delivery and provide their own delivery service

Would they really be considered a "flop"?
Place had a pretty decent run of being pretty much the best pizza in the city.
Seemed to over-expand, and I understand some family issues helped ultimately do them in, but a "flop"? I don't think I'd call it that.
agreed, but i would argue it is a flop considering how good it was and it still failed. maybe a "fumble" would be the better term here

Yes! They used to send the Grandpa to deliver
Glad to know they're still doing a lot of takeout. They're such nice people. I would hate to see them go under.
I wasn't sure if maybe Umami caught a lot of their student business.

Breck’s Bistro was very good.
Don’t recall why it closed, but was a great spot in that part of town. Was it where Modesto is, or a different place around there? I don't recall.
Yes, it was where Modesto is.

Portabellos had a good run for a while. But they changed chefs and management a few years ago and it was not the same. I think the one near bocage only does catering now or maybe it closed?
Masons grill - Was always a staple growing up in the area. Since they sold, I have had to walk out of the restaurant twice for incredibly bad service.. - Last time being a month ago, tried to put in an order at 8:35 and fatass waitress said kitchen was closed. So we closed out, she comes back saying "Kitchen said they would make an exception for you" we said no. As we passed the kitchen on the way out, they were hustling food out, and asked the host what time the kitchen closed, and she told us 9PM. Waitress could have said she made a mistake, but decided to double down on her lie by saying we would be an "exception".. will never go back to that place.

Deangelo’s had stores in lake Chuck, Northshore, maybe even over in Mississippi. It did well.

Anyone remember Canefield Tavern?
It was in the Strip by AM Mart, possibly in the old Brew-Bacher’s Nicholson location. Seemed to always have a good crowd.

Jefferson not Florida I believe. It was quite good. My wife loved the Tenderloin Dauphine. I miss it.

Wow I had totally forgotten that place.
There was a Jordanian place right there too at some point.

I want to like Mason's. But the service and the food have just gone down hill since the original owners sold. They did an OK job updating the place, also putting in acoustical panels on the walls and ceilings that helped with it being so loud in there.
TJ Ribs is another one. I never was the biggest fan of this place, tho I know it use to be super popular. I don't ever hear people going to eat there anymore.

Damn, I commented in the other one not realizing the thread was 9 years old.
I don't think Deano's lasted long in BR.

"Flop" seems to suggest a place that opened with some degree of fanfare only to close not to long after. I guess in that regard there were a couple of longtime New Orleans staples that opened in BR after Katrina, but didn't last too long. Mandina's and Galatoire's.
I always liked Mandina's as a casual Poboy/Italian spot in NOLA and was excited to see it open in BR. I don't know if it lasted more than a year or two in that graveyard at the corner of Jefferson and Old Hammond.

Although a bar and not a restaurant, BRs attempt at The Office was the first thing that came to my mind. It was slammed for a couple months then completely fell off a cliff. I'm not sure it lasted much more than a year.

That Jordanian place on Fridays would have a belly dancer. When my kid was about six years old, it always embarrassed the mess out of him. The food was really good but the owners were characters especially with his girlfriend and his wife. Lol
The cane field tavern was pretty good too. We went there for brunch a lot. My wife and I told ourselves why is it that when we find a new restaurant we like it doesn't ever make it? We must be bad Juju
