Chattanooga 111 is great. So are a bunch of others. I have the Wolcott BiB right now, it's good. Most of the single barrel and some of the small batch from the distilleries you have heard of are very much with drinking. Cumberland Cask 120 proof was good. I really liked Johnny Drum 101 proof.

Four Roses small batch is the best bang for your buck there is. Also, it’s much better than single barrel.

I like the Highland Park for Scotch.
Look into Weller for Bourbon.

If you're trying to get someone into whiskey, stick to the entry level stuff.

Buffalo Trace
Maker's Mark
Wild Turkey 101

Glenmorangie Original

Jameson Black Barrel

Underrated?
It’s in every bar and liquor store in the country and people think it’s fantastic. If anything it’s overrated.
For the record overrated does not mean bad. Sad that this needs to be stated.

Elijah Craig or Woodford Reserve would be my 2 recommendations for somebody trying to get into bourbon. Both are in the low 90 proof, so not too strong and are both easy drinkers with common bourbon tasting notes and nothing too fancy!
Knob Creek
Yellowstone is another that would fall into this category.

If you want to get them something hotter:
Wild Turkey 101
Chattanooga Cask Strength 111
Old Forrestor 1920, though its about $60
114 Old Grand-Dad

I'm not going to argue that it is some kind of premium brand, but for the money it's a solid value.

I got a bottle of Dickel 13 Yr Bottled in Bond recently. For a $50 bottle, I thought it was pretty darn good.
