Well, are you looking for authentic or for Tex-Mex?
The best Tex-Mex is El Paso off of Sherwood. It is great every time we go, consistent with big portions.

Coyote Blues, Mestizo's, Velvet Cactus, Ninfas, Casa Maria, what?
Not Taco Bell, Izzos, El Churro or something stupid.

My favorite non-authentic is La Carreta.
Casa Mara and Casa La Vida aren't bad. Nor is Coyote Blues.

Tex-mex is an embarrassment to humanity. Space aliens turn around and leave when they see people eating that crap.
I'm going with El Paste Dorado. Incredible sopes.

El Magey still around? I liked the buffet. I love buffets.

Leave south Louisiana, come to Texas, see everything that Tex-Mex should be, change your mind.
This same thing happened to me.

Casia Maria is decent. Coyote Blues is inconsistent, but I feel like when they're on they might be the best. Ninfas is overpriced as hell. I haven't been to Mestizo's in years, but I remember it being about the same as Coyote Blues. I was never a fan of La Carretta. Definitely not Lava Cantina, if that place is even still in business.

Yeah and I'm pretty sure they are doing really well. They figured it out. Americans, especially south Louisianians don't go to Mexican restaurants expecting to have an incredible Mexican experience. If you make cool drinks, play good music, and have a good location, people will go.
